So you would rather see, in the last few rounds of the best club comp on earth a bunch of (no disrespect) nobodies rather than players like Buffon, Chiellini, Pirlo, Marchisio, Vidal ect ect?

Last year Juventus certainly didn't deserve it but the way Juve are playing this year would be arguably more exciting than Chelsea, Marseille, Benfica and Apoel. I love an underdog as much as anyone else but still wouldn't change the fact I'd rather have bigger teams in the last rounds.

And the way your dismissing Juve so easily on the basis of drawing a lot shows you have maybe watched 2-3 Juve matches this season. Most of our games are pretty entertaining..

i don't give a flying *bleep* about seeing buffon, chiellini or marchisio, they didn't do enough last year which means they weren't good enough for the cl this year and the "we're much better this year" excuse doesn't work, being "much better" when you can sit at home while your opponents have to travel all over europe in midweek doesn't really say much

people claiming how much more would cl be interesting if club x was there instead of club y are nothing short of plastics tbh... fact is that big name clubs like juve, inter and liverpool have done absolutely nothing whatsoever to deserve being in the late stages of cl, good for you if you feel entitled to a cl spot... i for one could not give a shit if juve were there instead of benfica, i like watching football based on how the teams actually perform, not how high their players are rated on fifa
Your first paragraph is invalid because inter Milan and Milan were both shocking at the beginning of the season when there wasn't any european compitition so I your excuse for that's why Juve are playing better this season is utter bullshit.

I don't talk about leagues I don't know much about so I suggest you do the same.

Infact inter have been shit all season to be honest your just over complicating their European duties, it's not as if they play a European match every week is it ffs.

Calling people plastic fans just because they would rather have more the top teams towards the end of the champions league is pathetic. I don't slam you for your opinion so I'll appreciate it if you don't imply I'm a plastic fan for my opinion which isn't even bad. It's just an opinion

Have you problems reading? Show me where I'v said Juve or any other of them teams are entitled to be in the champions league because of their name? If you can't then you can happily STFU and GTFO.

Like I'v said in other posts in this thread, look at what the thread is asking and show me why what I'v said has offended you so much. Otherwise stop talking your bullshit to me and take that stick from your anus..

Without taking this as a direct offense I can tell you that Serie A and CL are 2 very different competitions (except for Inter, because they performed terribly on both stage). No way Juve would have so many draws, I think it's really obvious.

No agression or personal insults.

He's trying to say the only reason my team are doing well this year is because the rivals have been poor at stages

I have no beef though at all, shit gets said sometimes.

Oh and to be implied that I'm a plastic fan is more of a personal insult than anything I said...

not really, what he is trying to say is that you are not doing as bad as last season just because you are not playing in Europe, if you were in Europe you would have been doing worse than now. And I think we can all agree with him on this.

Post by Cassius Sat Mar 17, 2012 7:02 pm

I'm not doubting that it would be harder but if we're going to start with the 'if's' then what if Juve did get into Europe, and then what if we bought a better striker that could actually finish then maybe we would be fist in the league. See I can do that too. You don't know for a fact we wouldn't be doing aswel if not better if we were in Europe.

Those stats don't mean much, I'v conceded that they have to play more games but they're professional athletes for christs sake, running around for 90 or 120 mins every other day isn't going to kill them is it. I can understand what your saying but your argument is as baseless as your accusing mine to be.

Yeah some opinions are full of shit like you said but mines hardly a wild and unpopular opinion. I can see some points to your opinion but the majority of it is ifs and buts that's why I can't take you seriously when you discredit juventus.

Where did I say they are entitled to be in it though? I already mentioned in another post that i like an underdog and more power to the smaller teams if they want to give it their all vs a huge team. All I was implying is I would rather watch topclass football at the end of the CL. Is that so hard to understand?
I'm sure many other's would too. Your taking my words as of I want only teams with history ect to be in the CL when that isn't the case at all.

Define bigger. Why is Juve bigger than Benfica, for instance?

Because Benfica can't do this no matter how poor their squad is compared to yours ?

No offense here but Benfica is the bigger club and that is by stats:
66 domestic titles (more than Juventus), 32 leagues, 27 cups, 3 league cups, 4 super cups.
2 CL titles. Same number of CL by Juve.

I can't believe I'm getting into this argument but I will.

The most recent Benfica - Real Madrid game was a pre-season game in 2004 which ended 2-2.

But of the three times they have faced Real Madrid in the CL these were the results:

17/03/1965 CL QF Real Madrid 2-1 Benfica 1964/65
24/02/1965 CL QF Benfica 5-1 Real Madrid 1964/65
02/05/1962 CL Final Benfica 5-3 Real Madrid 1961/62

But surely that what Juve have done with a bad team in recent years is a better representation than what happened in the 60's?

Sure it is. What I wanted to question is, do matches against real madrid really matter to this discussion? DeviAngel just wanted to provoke.

I don't like defining clubs as bigger or smaller. But if I really have to, yes, Juventus is the bigger club. They are richer, are in a better league, and certainly are more known and possess more fans around the world. Sports wise, their squad also seems better (atleast on paper).

But is Benfica a small club? Nope. Do they deserve to be in the CL? Yes. Would the CL be more interesting if we swapped Benfica for Juventus? Maybe for an Italian fan, but for me it'd be the same, on their day they are both strong teams, but ultimately I don't think any of them stand a chance to Barca.

why is that? Benfica have more domestic titles and equal CL with Juve.

No I don't use head to head results in that way unles they're recent.

And yes Benfica deserve to be there. But no I don't care if they have won 100 cups in Portugal, that means nothing in a comparison to a foriegn club.

Juve and Inter are joint top in Europa league wins + finalists, this competition is one Benfica are often in.

That is a much better comparison of 2 teams from a different league. Not domestic cups.

Nope, it's not boring at all. None of those teams are there for a reason, they are not good enough. Maybe next season.

APOEL, Benfica, Marseille>>>>> all those teams you mentioned in the CL/Euro cup comp this season.
