Re: Messi does hat-trick
The best players for the team aren't always selected, look at the line up we put out yesterday. Brana and Mascherano midfielders Maxi and Sosa as our wide midfielders, our midfield was crap and it showed. We don't exactly have stars in defense or goalkeepers either.Le Samourai wrote:Dani said the rest of the team is utter trash....I thought he was being unfair to the rest of the team.

First half was entertaining. Part of the second too so I think we wasted only about 30 min of your precious little life.

Re: Messi does hat-trick
These Argentine coaches seem to always have flaws no matter what......Pep Batista kept trying to play like Barca with a 3 DM midfield( ), Maradona had no tactical prowess whatsover, Basile before him didn't play too badly but the truth is he was past it by then. The last good coach we had was Pekerman in 2006, I remember we played great futbol and only lost to Germany on penalties. Even he made some questionable decisions(Taking off Riquelme against Germany).
and now Sabellastudiantes wants to call up very very mediocre players to play in our midfield. Our midfield yesterday had me very worried, and the result could have been worse if it weren't for what I thought was not a bad defensive display from the CBs

the team that played yesturday, minus Messi, the goalie, Aguero, 3 of the 4 defenders, and the rightback and Mascherano if they played the proper position...was exactly that, utter trash.
That midfield was worse than most La Liga teams, nearly all in fact.

That has nothing to do with the team that was fielded...
Romero
Campagnaro - Garay - Fernandez - Zabaleta
Sosa - Brana - Mascherano - Maxi
Messi - Aguero
I'd be surprised if that midfield is able to put in a single succesful through ball between all of them combined in 90 minutes...

Its a friendly. It allows the coaches to experiment, and thats whats been done. I do think playing Higuain is a must because both Aguero and Messi will create so much. They need someone to finish those chances. I hope Gaitan is given a chance to shine, he has a lot of potential. For the big competitions, when fit, I expect a Maschereno, Banega, and Gago combination. And they will do just fine. For the wings, I expect them to play Lavezzi, Aguero, Di Maria in either side. Today was just a friednly ffs, you make it seem like it was a World cup match. Players like Maxi and Sosa wont start over Di maria and Lavezzi. I am sure Napoli and Madrid has requested them to be rested given their fragile conditions.

Re: Messi does hat-trick
The team fielded wasn't mediocre IMO but true it wasn't used the right way.
I would line up with this.
______________Romero
_______Fernandez_____Garay
Capagnaro__________________Zabaleta
________Mascherano
___________________Gago
Salvio_______________________Rodriguez
________Messi
________________Aguero
That looks pretty competent.
Switzerland had a good Defense except Aloffer had a shocker.

How do I make it seem like it was a world cup match? Before the match I posted that I didn't really care about the result, that friendlies are for testing, and that I refuse to get mad about a friendly (on a spanish river plate forum where I rarely post). But I think I'm allowed to comment that the midfield that was actually fielded was extremely average, right?StevieRayVaughan wrote:Its a friendly. Their goal was also pretty controversial, Aguero was taken out in a brake away, and they scored in the counter attack. So they deserved a red but got a goal instead.Lord Hispano wrote:Switzerland had a good Defense except Aloffer had a shocker.

Didn't see it (or when Switzerland scored (was making coffee at the time )). Gotta watch a replay but if that's the case then Switzerland were lucky in that instance.

And to me it raises this question, which current or even recent Argentina player can claim as many goals as Lio because it's not Tevez, El Kun, Riquelme, or any other Argie that I can think of. As of now his club form is in no way whatsoever near his NT form, but according to wikipedia's figures he's still doing better than anyone else on the NT. This has to be addressed.
Of the 22 goals Lionel Messi has scored for Argentina, you want to know how many of them actually mean anything?
1 goal in 2006 World Cup in which Argentina won 6 nil anyway.
2 goals in the 2007 Copa America
4 goals in the 2010 World Cup Qualification
and 2 goals in the 2014 World Cup Qualification
So 13 of the 22 goals Messi has scored has been in friendlies which means exactly squat.
9 of them in official competitions, against pretty sub-par teams.
Yeah best ever player all right.....

3 goals and 11 assists in the group stages .
Penaldo on the other hand scored in the Semi-final of the Euro2004 at 19.
Real fans all trying to discredit Messi, lol? Its pathetic. This is the GL section right so I hope I can declare war on these pathetic Real fans
Saying MEssi is a big game flop? Really? HAhahaahh~ His performances for Argentina have always been good, at least in the last couple of years, hes been very good. Goals dont show the whole story and Real fans dont even watch the freakin games and make comments like these.
Anyway, I hope this kicks off Messi's NT career, in terms of real regonition which is deserved and goals continue to come. Aguero improved and hopefully thats helping, and Higuain wins a penalty by diving, thx

And this is why Messi deserves even more credit. To perform with a disjointed team and bad defense is very diffciult. Penaldo at least can play with a good defense and a decent midfield, but his record arent even as good as Messi's.

Maybe I assumed that, I did get the impression that you think Argentina's mid in general is average. My point was to prove otherwise. But if that was not your argument, then I clearly misunderstood ur point.

Re: Messi does hat-trick
Copa America will now be held every four years. Messi's gotta take advantage of what he's got left to make that impression in the NT.
It's until 2016 though. I'll be 28 by then. I wonder if Messi would have already change my opinion of him until then.
I wonder if I'll still be here.

Re: Messi does hat-trick
I would field a mf of mascherano gago and pastore/banega based on whose on form. Enough steel so that it wont get overrun at the wc and enough creativity so that the burden doesnt all fall on messi. Up front I'd say aguero is a must. He is a secent finisher and can also create on his own. Higuain is a good finisher but when he's not on his gamelike cdr he is a big liability. He's also got a pretty good understanding with messi and they can play the give and go football he thrives on. I'd also play di maria for sure. His technique and workrate ill be a handful for any defense and he is an out let for messi to stretch the pitch. Him and Zabaleta can stretch the opponents and keep messi's area from getting congested.

Honestly since it's such and important position and Pastore can't play it...you might as well go for something like this
............Gago.......Mascherano.....
.....Messi...........................Di Maria
............................Aguero.........
................Higuain...................
It might just leave Messi with too much to do though.

Higuain needs to starting playing consistently if he wants start for Argentina, because right now, Messi and Aguero work and both play often.
Argentina dont lack talent in this position.

Re: Messi does hat-trick
The first goal highlighted what exactly some of the Argentinian players need to do: link up more with Messi. They have to understand the style of play that has made him into this phenomenal athlete, and play their part effectively. One of the main problems is the central midfield, if there is no genuine play maker - Banega is the best option Argentina have - then Messi will drop too deep. We have seen that with Barcelona, but this shows more of a struggle than anything with Argentina, where he has to take authority and do it all himself. It's still evident that the players don't understand his give-and-go play, just take a look at the video above.
