Re: Borussia Mönchengladbach
Bundesliga Matchday 10 - 25 Oct 2015
Borussia M'gladbach vs Schalke 04
Borussia Mönchengladbach: Sommer - Korb, A.Christensen, Jantschke, Wendt - Dahoud (56. Nordtveit), G.Xhaka - I.Traoré (73. A.Hahn/ 83. T.Hazard), F.Johnson - Raffael, Stindl
Schalke 04: Fährmann - Riether, Höwedes, J.Matip, Aogo - Höjbjerg (78. Choupo-Moting), Geis - Caicara (73. Huntelaar), M.Meyer - di Santo (89. Neustädter), L.Sané
Goals:
32.) 1:0 - Lars Stindl (rebound of a PK that was saved by Ralf Fährmann)
44.) 1:1 - Andreas Christensen (own goal)
70.) 2:1 - Raffael (fantastic free kick)
84.) 3:1 - Julian Korb (assist by Raffael)
FT - Borussia M'gladbach 3:1 Schalke 04
Normally Gladbach should have won with a higher score as they heavily pressured Schalke and had the better chances. Only the ball didn't go in - so a dubious penalty (for once a 50:50 decision was given *for* Gladbach) was needed to get the first goal - but not even that went directly in, the rebound was needed.
And the goal that Schalke scored came from the only occasion when they got somewhat dangerously in front of Gladbach's goal - but even then a Gladbach player was needed to finally score as Schalke still didn't have a shot on goal.
In the second half, Schalke played better, but whenever they shot on goal, Yann Sommer was there. On the other side, Ralf Fährmann took care that the result stayed civil.
The low point of the match was the nasty foul by Johannes Geis that earned him a straight red and lead to a serious injury of André Hahn who suffered a fracture of the caput tibiae (part of the bone at the upper end of the tibia) and a rupture of the meniscus. He'll be out for at least the 'Hinrunde'.

Re: Borussia Mönchengladbach
DFB-Pokal 2nd Round - Wednesday 28 Oct 2015
FC Schalke 04 vs Borussia M'gladbach
FC Schalke 04: Gspurning - Riether (55. L.Sané), Höwedes, J.Matip, Kolasinac (76. Höjbjerg) - Goretzka, Aogo - Caicara (83. Choupo-Moting), M.Meyer - Huntelaar, di Santo
Borussia MG: Sommer - Korb (63. A.Dominguez), A.Christensen, Jantschke, Wendt - G.Xhaka, Nordtveit - T.Hazard (76. Dahoud), I.Traoré - Stindl, Drmić (46. F.Johnson)
Goals:
42.) 0:1 - Lars Stindl
53.) 0:2 - Thorgan Hazard (Foul PK)
FT - FC Schalke 04 0:2 Borussia M'gladbach
This match was incredible. In the first half, Schalke played Gladbach almost off the field and had a could of absolute sitters by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Junior Caicara and Franco di Santo. Gladbach had Yann Sommer, though, and thus none of Schalke's numerous attempts landed in the goal. Gladbach didn't even get near the Schalke goal, but when Lars Stindl broke through for once, Joel Matip slipped and Gladbach suddenly were 1:0 up.
Man of the Match: Yann Sommer <3
In the second half, Josip Drmić was subbed off for Fabian Johnson, and finally Gladbach played with 11 players. It took only a few minutes, and Schalke's reserve goalie Michael Gspurning totally idiotically fouled Lars Stindl, and so the ref had to give a pen that made it 2:0 for Gladbach.
This result was sufficient to send Gladbach through to the Last 16 of the DFB-Pokal.
One big drawback was the fact that Tony Jantschke was fouled in the last minutes of the game, and it seems he suffered a bad shoulder injury. The diagnosis isn't out yet, though.

Re: Borussia Mönchengladbach
Bundesliga Matchday 11 - 31 Oct 2015
Hertha BSC vs Borussia M'gladbach
Hertha BSC: Jarstein - Weiser, Langkamp, Lustenberger, Plattenhardt - Skjelbred, Darida - Haraguchi, Cigerci (61. Tonny), Stocker (77. Regäsel) - Kalou (46. Baumjohann)
Borussia Mönchengladbach: Sommer - Nordtveit, A.Christensen, A.Dominguez, Wendt - G.Xhaka, Dahoud (71. M. Schulz), I.Traoré - Raffael (74. T.Hazard), Stindl (89. Hrgota)
Goals:
26.) 0:1 - Oscar Wendt (assist by Fabian Johnson)
28.) 0:2 - Raffael
55.) 0:3 - Granit Xhaka (PK)
82.) 1:3 - Alexander Baumjohann (PK)
90+1) 1:4 - Havard Nordtveit (assist by Marvin Schulz)
FT - Hertha BSC 1:4 Borussia M'gladbach
Fun fact: Since André Schubert took over at BMG, BMG played 6 BL matches, 2 CL matches and 1 DFB-Pokal match. In all of these 9 matches, Gladbach got 8 goals against - and not a single one of these goals came from open play by an opponent player. The goals were 6 (in words: six) penalties against Gladbach and 2 (twho) own goals by Gladbach players...

Re: Borussia Mönchengladbach
Actually I think this shows that Yann Sommer did a really good job recently as penalties usually are a lottery, and no one expects their own players to try and score against them.

Re: Borussia Mönchengladbach
By the way - the goals against Gladbach look really funny. Here's the summary of goals scored against Gladbach when Lucien Favre was still the coach and after André Schubert took over:
(A: Away, H: Home, F-PK: Foul Penalty, and OG: own goal)
Lucien Favre:
DFB Pokal R1 (St.Pauli A): 1 goal (open play)
Buli MD01 (Dortmund A): 4 goals (open play)
Buli MD02 (Mainz H): 2 goals (open play)
Buli MD03 (Werder A): 1 F-PK, 1 goal (open play)
Buli MD04 (HSV H): 3 goals (open play)
Buli MD05 (Köln A): 1 goal (open play)
CL MD1 (Sevilla A): 1 goal (open play), 2 F-PK
André Schubert:
Buli MD06 (Augsburg H): 2 F-PK
Buli MD07 (Stuttgart A): 1 F-PK
CL MD2 (ManCity H): 1 F-PK, 1 OG (Christensen)
Buli MD08 (Wolfsburg H): -- [GK T.Sippel]
Buli MD09 (Frankfurt A): 1 F-PK
CL MD3 (Juventus A): --
Buli MD10 (Schalke H): 1 OG (Christensen)
DFB-Pokal R2 (Schalke A): --
Buli MD11 (Hertha A): 1 F-PK
So since Schubert took over, there was no goal against Gladbach from open play anymore - the opponents either needed a foul penalty or Gladbach players helping them out
(A: Away, H: Home, F-PK: Foul Penalty, and OG: own goal)
Lucien Favre:
DFB Pokal R1 (St.Pauli A): 1 goal (open play)
Buli MD01 (Dortmund A): 4 goals (open play)
Buli MD02 (Mainz H): 2 goals (open play)
Buli MD03 (Werder A): 1 F-PK, 1 goal (open play)
Buli MD04 (HSV H): 3 goals (open play)
Buli MD05 (Köln A): 1 goal (open play)
CL MD1 (Sevilla A): 1 goal (open play), 2 F-PK
André Schubert:
Buli MD06 (Augsburg H): 2 F-PK
Buli MD07 (Stuttgart A): 1 F-PK
CL MD2 (ManCity H): 1 F-PK, 1 OG (Christensen)
Buli MD08 (Wolfsburg H): -- [GK T.Sippel]
Buli MD09 (Frankfurt A): 1 F-PK
CL MD3 (Juventus A): --
Buli MD10 (Schalke H): 1 OG (Christensen)
DFB-Pokal R2 (Schalke A): --
Buli MD11 (Hertha A): 1 F-PK
So since Schubert took over, there was no goal against Gladbach from open play anymore - the opponents either needed a foul penalty or Gladbach players helping them out

Re: Borussia Mönchengladbach
Champions League Matchday 4 - 3 Nov 2015
Borussia M'gladbach vs Juventus Turin
Borussia Mönchengladbach: Sommer - Nordtveit, A.Christensen, A.Dominguez, Wendt - Dahoud, G.Xhaka - I.Traoré, F.Johnson (85. T.Hazard) - Stindl, Raffael
Juventus Turin: Buffon - Lichtsteiner, Chiellini, Bonucci, Evra - Hernanes, Marchisio - Sturaro (87. Lemina), Dybala (62. Cuadrado), Pogba - Morata (75. Barzagli)
Goals:
18.) 1:0 - Fabian Johnson (assist by Raffael)
44.) 1:1 - Stephan Lichtsteiner (assist by Paul Pogba)
FT - Borussia M'gladbach 1:1 Juventus Turin
That means Borussia M'gladbach are out of the CL for this season. But they can still manage to proceed to the EL if they claim the 3rd place in their group.

Borussia M'gladbach vs FC Ingolstadt
Borussia Mönchengladbach: Sommer - Nordtveit, A.Christensen, A.Dominguez, Wendt - Dahoud (51. Drmić), G.Xhaka - I.Traoré (79. T.Hazard) F.Johnson - Stindl, Raffael (88. Elvedi)
FC Ingolstadt: Özcan - Levels, M.Matip, Hübner, Suttner - Bregerie - Groß (66. Engel), Morales - Hartmann, Hinterseer (76. da Costa), Leckie
Goals:
None whatsoever
FT - Borussia M'gladbach 0:0 FC Ingolstadt
This match was very hard, dirty and ended with 9 bookings, one of them the yellow-red send-off for Granit Xhaka in the 86th minute. (Unfortunately Xhaka is quite a hot-head who acts a bit to rashly when being provoked.)
When the Gladbach players asked the Ingolstadt players after the match, they were told that Ingolstadt coach Ralf Hasenhüttl ordered them to provoke and foul their opposition to disrupt the flow of the game.
BTW, the Oscar for playacting goes to Alfredo Morales. After a pretty normal foul he rolled around on the grass, making the most out of it to waste as much time as possible. Alvaro Dominguez impatiently tried to pull him up, which prompted Morales to fake being strangled and suffering a gruesome death of asphyxiation:
This caused a lot of outrage and mockery on Twitter, some people even nominating him for the Golden Raspberry.

Re: Borussia Mönchengladbach
Stindl is having himself quite a season. Have they been deploying him exclusively as a striker? I thought he was more of a central midfielder?
Either way this team is fun to watch. I've caught a few of their games this season.

Re: Borussia Mönchengladbach
Rumours have it that Lars Stindl was contracted as defensive midfielder to replace Christoph Kramer, while Josip Drmić was originally signed to replace Max Kruse in attack.
As things stand now, it looks as if Lars Stindl is the better Max Kruse (runs more and scores more), while Josip Drmić appears to have found a good role as stand in for anyone of the wingers. Finally, Mo Dahoud from the Gladbach academy looks perfect as DM.

Bundesliga Matchday 15 - 05 Dec 2015
Borussia M'gladbach vs Bayern München
Borussia Mönchengladbach: Sommer - Elvedi, A.Christensen, Nordtveit - Korb, Dahoud (84. Marvin Schulz), G.Xhaka, F.Johnson, Wendt - Stindl (90.+1 T.Hazard), Raffael (88. Drmić)
Bayern München: Neuer - Lahm, Javi Martinez, Benatia, Rafinha - J.Boateng, Xabi Alonso (67. Rode), Vidal - T.Müller, Coman - Lewandowski (75. F.Ribery)
Yann Sommer made sure that Gladbach stayed in the game in the first half
Goals:
54.) 1:0 - Oscar Wendt (assist by Raffael)
66.) 2:0 - Lars Stindl (assist by Nico Elvedi)
68.) 3:0 - Fabian Johnson (assist by Julian Korb)
81.) 3:1 - Franck Ribéry (assist by Arturo Vidal)
FT - Borussia M'gladbach 3:1 Bayern München
Celebrating a big point
Amazing result, especially if one remembers that Gladbach had six important players out injured (Martin Stranzl, Alvaro Dominguez, Patrick Herrmann, André Hahn, Nico Schulz, and Ibrahima Traoré), and they played a 3-5-2 formation for the first time ever - with two 19-year old players (Nico Elvedi + Andreas Christensen) in the 3-men defense plus another 19-year old (Mo Dahoud) as DM. In the PK, André Schubert said he was inspired by Juventus Turin who also played the 3-5-2 and he thought it would be an interesting idea to try that, too.
