Robben just a disturbance? Empty Robben just a disturbance?

Post by VivaStPauli Wed Feb 08, 2012 10:37 am

http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2012/02/08/2892134/ribery-has-one-goal-no-assists-in-eight-games-without-kroos

I actually agree with this article by ze Whitney. I have seen Bayern with and without Robben this season, and while Robben is still a world class player, he just makes the Bayern attack click less.

Kroos in the Center means Müller on the right, simply because Müller brings smarter runs to the table. Though it could be argued that the "Ribéry-Triangle" Problem could be fixed with benching Müller and playing Kroos at #10 as well.

But I say, bench Robben, play Müller at RM until Reus is there, Kroos at 10 and Ribéry obviously at LM.

You'll have to rotate anyway, so Robben will still get minutes, even when Reus is there.

Oh, I deleted half a sentence that's why it didn't make any sense. I briefly wanted to talk about how Bayern still want/need to sign a Reus-like player, so "Reus" actually refers to anyone replacing Reus. So probably Shakiri.

Bayern has changed a lot since last year,it used to be mostly about Robben and now when the system is changed and they are not that dependable on him he can be obsolete at times. They simply don't play Robbenball anymore and now he is suffering :vagi:

My mate who is a hardcore Bayern supporter and is actually German and lives there said that is the general feeling in Bayern, he is disruptive in both the dressing room and on the field and deosn't release the ball early. Also there are complaints of Kroos playing in cm as he is Bayerns best 10, confirmed by Ribery. Gustavo is also better than Tsymochuk.

I have not seen much of Bayern, but I find it hard to understand why its Robben who should be benched and not Muller.

I understand, neither are playing well and Muller makes great off the ball runs which indeed help great passers in the team.

However, Robben has the ability to go off and win a game on his own at any moment. There is no doubt, 1 v 1 Robben is a clearly better player when he is on form and in the right situation. Also, benching Robben means trouble because he is in his prime and sitting down and watching after the seasons he had recently isnt going to sit well. Muller on the other hand is younger and has more time and probably a better attitude about rotation/benching.

But hey, I dont watch Bayern enough to really say this with any authority, its just the feeling I get.

Agree, Viva. But it's not just a Kroos problem: Robben needs a decent fullback. We all know his classic play, run, dribble, cut inside and launch the left footed piledriver. Thing is, he needs a fullback to open up space for once he cuts in and this season he's had:
1. Boateng, who's good defensively but offers 0 offensively. Not a natural fullback.
2. Rafinha, who's been off form and has not been given any consistent games to form a partnership.
3. Frakking Tymoschuk. Really.

Heynckes needs to stop experimenting and stick to the true and tried method that was giving him results. If you're going to play Robben, then also play Rafinha who's the only decent right back we have, even if off form. Get him used to it because the inconsistent starts don't do much for his morale. Robben can start and rotate until off form. I would not necessarily bench Müller because his workrate is incredible and his off the ball runs give so much space for Ribéry/Gómez/Kroos to operate. Even when he plays bad (he's only played bad because he's not been scoring) he offers a lot to the team.

The team also needs to be built around Schweini. Dropping Kroos to midfield has never worked, only in the German NT and in not too important games. He can be a Schwein sub in midfield, but his place is in the advanced midfield role. Either Gustavo or Tymo bring stability to the midfield and give Schweini more freedom to dictate games.

Well, even SuperMario Basler said in the last Doppelpass football talk on Sport1 that Robben should be kicked out (which caused quite some controversy then, too).

if your talking about a 1/2 season wonder that might of course be Sneijder and not Robben

i can see Robben adding more to a team than him if Chelsea get him then thats a position ticked off where they have been struggling and he is only what?? 28 yo not that high tbh

Maybe if Robben has to click again just play Lahm on the right ,maybe they could strike a great partnership again and i truly believe Jupp should give Alaba a go at Left-Back.

Its clear that he aint getting enough support from the full-back but i havent seen him make his trademark run in a while ,i am not seeing him take on defenders like he used to for some games now.Maybe is he worried that he might pull a hamstring again or has he just lost it ?

He should start making some minor adjustments to his game tbh..I actually think his passing and crossing is very good ,so i think he should do more of that in my opinion.
