The North American magazine Time has picked FC Barcelona’s Leo Messi to feature on the over of their February edition. The magazine will go on sale worldwide this Sunday, January 29

It’s the first time that a football player has graced the cover of the magazine, other athletes that have appeared on the cover are Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, and Muhammad Ali, amongst others.

Well there was a poll that (100k votes or something) that would suggest that. Don't know what Time is on about, we'll have to wait and see the story.

Unless I live in a different country we do love him. And there was never public hate or dislike against him. just a vocal minority who loved controversy. Most of them idiots as most journalist (and specially sports journalist) are.

Now even that minority isn't very vocal.

Unstoppable for Barcelona, hardly the same for Argentina, blah, blah, blah.

Just to be clear, the people who dislike Messi in Argentina are mostly two types: Rosario Central's fans because Messi is a big fan of Newell's old boys which are their rivals. And some Boca juniors fans, because they don't like having Messi being compared to their beloved Maradona.

It's mostly a derivation of club rivalry like when river plate fans call Riquelme a "penguin" or Tevez "a bumper car" or when Gimnasia fans call Veron an "english man"
