Who did you choose as Male Shepard?
Re: Mass Effect Thread
Its a great game but the janky launch+animations just killed it, people were shitting on it with no remorse, despite that, underneath its a very good game

Re: Mass Effect Thread
I've already got over 100 hours on this game and I only bought it 3 weeks ago when it was on sale for €30.
I had a bad feeling about MEA since I saw the first gameplay trailer last year: despite the much-improved combat system, the lame dialogues and NPCs were hard to miss. Something didn't feel Mass Effect about it, at all.
Fast forward a year and I put this game on par with the rest in the series. The stick this game has got is beyond belief. I don't know whether it is the popular bandwagon-jumping trend of modern times or the game was far worse than it is now at launch, or possibly a mixture of both - but I can tell you, I've had a wonderful time in Andromeda and it is hard to believe Bioware may have shelved such a deep franchise for good.
The combat, as I said, is fantastic. Enemy AI is the best I've seen in my life. Story telling, the main story and Member Assignments and developing a bond with your crew (as gay as it may sound) are as good as it has ever been. Graphics look beautiful and so do models. People who raged at MEA should play ME3 back-to-back with this and see the huge improvements without their nostalgia-tinted glasses.
By no means MEA is a flawless game. Trying to be a bit of GTA open world game where it is not Bioware's strong point at all. Adding MMO-style fetch quests is another bummer. This is where Bioware have rushed things and went for quantity rather than quality. You can't have both (unless you're Rockstar) and I would have preferred a few memorable side-missions rather a lot of boring grinds. They should have stuck to what they are good at: story-telling, depth of characters etc.
But all in all, this was a great adventure and I only have the media and crybabies to blame for the end of one of gaming's most acclaimed franchises.
Pathfinder, out.

Re: Mass Effect Thread
Played for a couple of hours out of the 10 hour trial.
Not sure what to think really, on one hand the combat and exploration seems great but the characters, story, quests and writing seems boring at best which is what most people play a Mass Effect game for.
I have no interest in them or their story so far which makes it hard to keep playing, maybe it gets better but as of right now it's not screaming it buy it.

Exactly my problem with it. From the little I played of it, the story or character were not engaging at all.

Re: Mass Effect Thread
This might sound like making excuses but the first 8 hours are the worst part of the game
Which also means most people who were half-hearted about buying the game will definitely make their mind up not to buy it after playing this demo.

Re: Mass Effect Thread
I wouldn't be surprised if it got better, honestly most RPGs start slowly.
But it's not giving much of a reason to want to continue tbh.

Re: Mass Effect Thread
Even though I've given up gaming a long time ago, I had to play this just because the original trilogy is simply the most amazing experience anything virtual will ever provide until they perfect VR sex.
And I just finished Andromeda.
It just wasn't it... Felt repetitive, lacked depth and the story and dialogues just weren't as good. The females are crap, also it was pretty incredible how many gay men kept hitting on me. Went with Cora eventually but also banged Peebee in the escape pod. Will do Keri as well when I get back to the Nexus.
It still had it's moments... When I played the demo and landed on Habitat 7 I was amazed at this game, everything looked great and the mechanics felt really good. Unfortunately as I went further into it is started getting repetitive... As if they just finished it just because they already started.
Hope there will be more though.

Re: Mass Effect Thread
Yeah, Kotaku did an article about what went wrong with Andromeda's development and it is quite amusing to read.
Still, don't think this game was as bad as people made it out to be. It was overall a good game but carrying the BioWare and Mass Effect brands meant expectations were unrealistically high.
As for a sequel or a reboot, it all seems very unlikely after how Andromeda performed. At least not in the near future.

Re: Mass Effect Thread
Considering the main man behind it departed the project only for a rookie to take over, a social justice team more intent on cramming their political agendas within the game, unskilled developers and just not the same team behind it, and using the glimmer of our neighbour galaxy to fuel the desire behind the game, not surprised it was such a tremendous failure.
I do not see the series picking up after this. Huge shame.

Bioware haven't really been Bioware since Mass Effect 2, their not much more than a name at this point.

ME2 is on top for me while, i loved ME3 despite the backlash.
On a similar note, Andromeda is fantastic, as an ME fan i loved it.

What a contrarian
I might actually play Andromeda now. ME2 is one of my favourite games. And I desperately want to play something like it, since there's hardly any games out there like it with that whole rpg gameplay dynamic (please do suggest, if there's some other than ME and Witcher).

List of changes
https://www.ea.com/games/mass-effect/mass-effect-legendary-edition/news/gameplay-calibrations
I was already sold at "Mass Effect, but slightly prettier".
As it stands this is my most anticipated release of the year, there's no other franchise I've enjoyed quite as much.
