Honestly, He is great but most of his final balls are the same. Barcelona do the same thing all the time. Messi does a diagonal ball to either an incoming forward or the fullback. It's the same thing. Xavi is still the superior passer in every departmet. Not knocking Messi down or saying it's easy but the runs are easier to read because they do it every game pretty much.

I don't agree with this, it's like saying Cronaldo is better dribbler than Messi, as his repertoar is wider. Messi is master final ball passer, and I think I've seen everykind of final ball from him there is. He is doing the diagonal passes more often, because they are devastating even against whole teams as above.

He does the lob also a lot.

It is not just about the final ball. It is about the tactical ability to set up such a situation too. Messi does that very often.

I do agree with jibers that with the system built that way he has it easier to find his teammates etc/expects them to be there, however it requires some amount of passing skill to be able to execute it and Messi has shown he is capable.

Messi tries the final ball more than any other player in La Liga and also succeed with the most through balls per game. His accuracy is pretty bad actually thou. Which could be attributed to the fact that he tries harder balls maybe.

Messi have tried 80 through balls and succeeded with 27. 34 % success rate.

No other player in La Liga have even tried over 50 through balls this season.

For comparison: Ronaldo, Özil, Alonso and Di Maria (the AMs/"playmakers" of Real Madrid) have together tried 71 through balls this season. With 32 successful ones. 45 % success rate.

Hence you could make the case that "final balls" are for Messi what free kicks are for Ronaldo. He might succeed with the most, but he also tries the most.

pass from Messi to Abidal, eve tho it didn't end with a goal. Now compared to that last night's assist was meh - as was my point all the time while peoepl were screaming 'oh what a precise pass. Nobody can pass like that' (which is bullshit).

Messi can pass like a BOSS, but yesterday was nothing special. And this has nothing to do with me criticising Messi or Barca, but me criticising our defence for failing yet again. Abidal had miles of open space and Messi had seen him running and had time to get rid of Xabi and simply pass the ball to open Abidal.

^This. By having 2 or three players on him, there is more space fore an on-running defenders to find space. Barca has trained that play very, very good.

EDIT: Oh, and Paperbackwriter - nice to see someone finally pulled off some stats. I personaly believe Messi is really good at passing, but I defo wouldn't call him a miracle. Just really good at passing.
