The UEFA.com users' Team of the Year 2011 – the 11th in all – contains some very familiar names.

Iker Casillas (Real Madrid CF & Spain); Daniel Alves (FC Barcelona & Brazil), Gerard Piqué (FC Barcelona & Spain), Thiago Silva (AC Milan & Brazil), Marcelo (Real Madrid CF & Brazil); Arjen Robben (FC Bayern München & Netherlands), Xavi Hernández (FC Barcelona & Spain), Andrés Iniesta (FC Barcelona & Spain), Gareth Bale (Tottenham Hotspur FC & Wales); Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona & Argentina), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid CF & Portugal).

Cristiano Ronaldo's appearance – his first as a forward after four straight years in right midfield, where he also appeared in 2004 – makes him only the second player to gain six selections after Carles Puyol. Iker Casillas is in goal for the fifth year running, the first man to be picked in any position that many times in a row, and for the last four seasons has now been accompanied by Xavi Hernández and Lionel Messi.

While remaining true to the traditional 4-4-2 formation, we have shown some flexibility towards certain positions, such as moving Puyol out to left-back (where no specialist has been selected more than twice, and where the Barcelona centre-half has often turned out).

Well in my opinion Neuer was the standout keeper of last year and would've been selected apart from the bias. Just what I think...

Well, as usual it is just a popularity contest - and with a user vote even more so. Everybody with eyes to see should have seen that Neuer was the best GK in 2011, but of course he plays neither for Spain nor for Barcelona or Real. ^^

Iker is there because he's the best.

Seriously Neuer is great but it's not a foregone conclusion that he is better. This season Iker has made around 30 more saves than Neuer and conceded only 3 goals more. Not to mention he's yet to concede in the champions league.

But hey maybe I don't have eyes lol

Agreed Podolski should just be in the middle. and he should have a crown on his head or supermodels at his feet either will do, preferably both.

Forget Bale, what I really don't understand is how Pique is there instead of Puyol or Vidic considering he was making more blunders last year than Bonera in a tarantella.

Why is Arjen Robben there considering he was injured most of the time and didn't really do anything noteworthy compared to his CL final year. If any Bayern player should be there it should be Scwiensteiger!

And why Busquets is not there is beyond me.



And Neuer wasn't the best GK ffs as Valdes and Iker were both above him.

Gotta agree that the Pique addition can be called into question considering Puyol was probably more important to Barca's season. Robben as well.

Only Bayern Player that deserves to be there is Neuer and next to him is Gomez.

I also don't agree with the Robben inclusion. Makes no sence. He hasn't even hit top form this year.
