One was playing in the same team and system a few months ago, the other hasn't played in the same league for years.

At the moment I see them as being the same situation, bringing in an older reliable player to fill in injuries and holes in the squad.

If United don't sign any midfielders this month and rely on Scholes for the rest of the season then I will agree with you.
