Yeah, it's pretty messed up. It's especially when your team is out there fighting for a playoff spot and you'd rather be in the back drinking...
The Manager of the Marlins said Josh Beckett drinking has always gone on in the clubhouse. He used to have to lock the door during games so Beckett wouldn't go down there and drink.

I haven't really been watching this World Series since I don't care about the teams but last night's game 6 was pretty epic. Great example of why baseball is still one of the best games in the world. Lots of scoring, late comebacks, and a walk-off home run for the Cards.
I'll be watching Game 7 tonight.

This dude Wilson Ramos, catcher for the Nationals, was kidnapped in Venezuela. 4 gunmen approached him outside his house. Crazy stuff, hoping he ends up alright.

Another one to the list?
First time a big celebrity type is kidnapped, though... I can see him being released due to his big gun status. Even though he's not really major, baseball players are worshiped here.
Whoever was crazy enough to do that is gotta be shitting their pants.

Yeah, I've heard of a few cases of this happening in Venezuela, Honduras etc. Hopefully he's released.

Re: Official MLB Thread
Two of the games best prospects were swapped for each other yesterday. Jesus Montero/Hector Noesi of the Yanks for Michael Pineda/Jose Campos from the Mariners. Really disappointed to see Montero gone, as I thought he was going to be one of the best power hitters of the last 10 or so years. I read the Yanks tried their hardest to get Felix but Seattle wouldn't budge, not even for Montero, Banuelos, Betances, Nova(insane package).
That said I'm warming to the trade. Michael Pineda made the all-star team in his first year last season. He's only 22, great fastball in the upper 90's, and a couple good off-speed pitches. Montero while it sucks to lose him, has no real position in the MLB. He's not good enough defensively to be an everyday catcher. Essentially he's a DH, and with an aging A-Rod/Jeter we'll need that spot some days.
With that said, if we can get Prince Fielder now, I'd be ecstatic.
The Yankees also signed Kuroda from the Dodgers for a year. We pretty much solved our rotation problems in one night, lol.
C.C.
Pineda
Nova
Kuroda
Hughes/Burnett/F.Garcia
I assume Garcia will end up in the pen and that we move either Hughes or Burnett for a bat. Probably Hughes since Burnett is sh!t and has no value.

New season. I know hardly anyone cares but I'm gunna keep this thread bumped regardless
I have the Yankees winning the East, Tigers the Central, Rangers the West. With Tampa Bay and the Angels taking the WC. In the NL East, Philly I guess, Central St Louis and the Dodgers taking the West. Arizona and Atlanta WC.

You've got it twisted. Angels will win the west and Rangers will get 1 of the Wildcards.
There's 2 Wildcards this year with a 1 game playoff.

Actually was wondering if there was an MLB thread. I have to say I am very excited to watch baseball this year, I am taking a history of baseball course and it is awesome have not been bored in the class once. But so far the Cardinals have been doing great

That class sounds awesome. They actually just started a similar class at my alma-mater, but they never had it a few years ago. I definitely would've taken it. http://today.uconn.edu/blog/2012/04/a-swing-and-a-hit-students-flock-to-new-class-on-baseball-and-society/

Its pretty awesome. And this is the professors last semester teaching so I knew it was the last chance to take it. Seems fitting Jeter hit a homer today on Jackie Robinson day after having Rachel Robinson there for the ceremonies before the game. Also Cardinals with another win over the Cubs

^ Jeter has been beasting to start the season. Turning back the clock, looking like he's 29 again.
Also @ the Red Sox having problems already.

"Dustin Pedroia:
"I know that Youk plays as hard as anybody I've ever seen in my life,"Pedroia said. "I have his back, and his teammates have his back. We know how hard he plays. I don't really understand what Bobby's trying to do. But that's really not the way we go about our stuff here. I'm sure he'll figure that out soon."
Added Pedroia: "We've got Youk's back. He's played his [butt] off for us for a long time. Anytime he steps on the field, he's a great player. We're here to win, and we're here to win with him."
Asked if he thought Valentine's comments could have been meant as a motivational tool, Pedroia didn't sound impressed.
"Maybe in Japan or something," he said, referring to Valentine's stint as a manager there. "Over here in the U.S., we're on a three-game winning streak, we want to feel good and keep it rolling. We feel we have a good team and we've just got to get each other's backs and play together. Because if you don't do that, I don't care what sport you're playing, you're not going to win." "
I love the part "that's not really how we go about our stuff here..". Yeah, how they go about their stuff is playing videogames in the back with chicken and beer all game long.

Jays for the AL East
This is our seasonn, finally got some good depth in our bullpen and a great attacking lineup.
Our coaches are constantly adapting to limit the opposition's offensive threat and are working close with some players to improve their game.
The likes of Rasmus, Lind, Arencibia and Lawrie have already had great starts to the season and most of that due to John Farrell and Butterfield.

Re: Official MLB Thread
It's altogether too possible. Something tells me we haven't seen the last Boston clubhouse meltdown. (Hopefully, there won't be beer and chicken involved this time... Actually, on second thought, let me in on that. If they're going to go down in flames, I at least want a front row seat and some beer and chicken.)Amar wrote:Jays for the AL East

I got Lohse on my fantasy team, didn't even draft him, I got him on waivers and he's been great. Also have Jason Motte from the Cards.
My pitching is ehh besides Strasburg(:king:), but I have Miggy Cabrera, Hanley Ramirez, Ian Kinsler.

Boring? The same is said about football. And of course anyone who knows football would say that's BS, and it's the same with baseball. Seeing a nasty pitching performance is almost as exciting as seeing a 15-14 shoot out. Seeing the strategy that goes into every at bat is entertaining in itself.
