Re: Official MLB Thread
Have you seen the lawsuit that Rawlings filed against Wilson? Over Brandon Phillips wearing a Wilson glove that has gold accents.
On Friday, Rawlings filed suit against rival manufacturer Wilson in Federal Court, over the glove Wilson supplied to Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips, according to courthousenews.com.
Phillips’ glove “includes metallic gold-colored webbing, stitching and lettering,” violating Rawlings’ Gold Glove trademark, according to the lawsuit.
From the courthousenews.com story:
“Not only is Mr. Phillips using the infringing Wilson glove in the field during games, warm-ups, and practices, but defendant and Mr. Phillips also have promoted the very existence of the glove (and its connection to Wilson) through various channels and media,” the complaint states.
Rawlings wants Wilson enjoined from distributing any glove that contains “gold webbing, gold-colored fabrics or leather, gold lettering, gold stitching, any other metallic gold-colored material, or any other features that are confusingly similar” to Rawlings’ Gold Glove trademarks. It also seeks damages for trademark infringement, unfair competition, trademark dilution and false advertising.
Note that Phillips isn’t being sued.
Wilson is the lone defendant. Phillips is not a party to the complaint.

So Rawlings doesn't want anyone else to sell gold gloves. Good luck with that, I don't think you can trademark a color, but who knows.

Kinda what the people on the news when I first heard it. They said they will most likely settle out of court. I didn't even know Phillips had a gold glove and hes always being talked about during Cardinal games as one of the commentators is in love with him

Re: Official MLB Thread
Damn, we got almost every team in the AL East repped here
This is going to be a heck of a finish, especially cause of the second wildcard addition. Now teams like us (Jays), Orioles got a bigger shot at finally making the playoffs.
Baseballs been kicking off for a while around here, and if we ever made the playoffs, the city would absolutely blow up.
We've had a good restart after the break...unlucky to lose 1-0 in first game, but we dominated Cleveland these past 2 games.

And some dude Humber on the White Sox threw a perfect game earlier today, on just 96 pitches too. Crazy.
What a boring sport though

Whoa, had no idea. Could be a decent pickup, I'm not sure how much he has left though.
edit: he basically cost us nothing either. Low risk, high reward if he starts raking

2 years ago you wouldn't catch me watching baseball games, but this year, maybe cause of the Jays' decent run, been catching alot of games.
Ichiro is a fantastic pickup, the Yanks look devastating, should easily make it to the ALCS.
Btw, how bout that sweep of the Red Sox
DOMINATION.

Re: Official MLB Thread
Playoff baseball now.
And what a finish to the Yankees-Orioles game 3 tonight.
Summary: Yankees were down 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th, with 1 out already. 2 outs away from losing the game, and probably the series imo. A-Rod is up, who's been really struggling and was 0-3 with 2 K's at that point. Joe Girardi decides to pinch hit for him with Raul Ibanez. Second pitch Ibanez sees, he goes deep and ties the game 2-2. So it's extra innings. Bottom of the 12th inning, Ibanez comes up again leading off. First pitch he sees, and GONE. Game winning walk-off Home Run, after hitting the game tying HR 3 innings earlier. So effin CLUTCH to Raul Ibanez. Made Girardi look like a genius.
Ibanez, boss status
edit, video: http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=25379793&topic_id=37975632&c_id=nyy
Awesome fcking moment.

Re: Official MLB Thread
We just pulled off a MONSTER DEAL, easily the biggest in our history.
We addressed our biggest need by acquiring top of the line pitchers in Johnson and Buerhle, and got great power at the top of the lineup with Reyes.
Our top batting order should be something like Reyes, Rasmus, Bautista, Encarnacion, Lawrie
While our rotation will probably be: Johnson, Buerlhe, Morrow, Romero, Happ with Janssen, Santos, and Oliver coming from the bullpen.
Stunning deal.
edit: as for who we gave up, Younel Escobar had to go after the contoversey surrounding him this year, (plus he's been in decline for 3 seasons now), The biggest losses for us are the highly touted prosecpts Hechavarria and Marisnick. However, the former was having REAL trouble with hitting against major league pitchers, and the latter is years away from coming through. It has to be noted that Marisnick was our 2nd best prospect from a crop that is supposed to be the best group of youngsters in the MLB.

Re: Official MLB Thread
Are the Blue Jays taking on all of their salary?
Either way they are going to have a nasty lineup. Pitching depends on how healthy Johnson is and how effective Buerhle can be in the AL East at his age. Morrow might be a better 2nd starter.
And Reyes hitting on astroturf

Baseball starting tomorrow. My interest isn't as high as it normally is but still cool.
i think the AL East will probably play out like:
1.Toronto
2.Baltimore
3.New York
4.Tampa Bay
5.Boston
I hope the Yanks can battle it out with the Jays and O's but Teixeira, A-Rod, Jeter, Granderson are all hurt to start the season.

Re: Official MLB Thread
Haven't upped this thread since the start of the season...
All-Star Game was last night. AL won 3-0. Mariano Rivera, in his last season, pitching the 8th was one of the great ASG moments I can remember(since Cal Ripkens final one, when A-Rod moved over so CR could play short again). Mo pitched a 1-2-3 eighth and won ASG MVP.
Awesome moment right here:
GOAT closer, GOAT postseason pitcher of All-Time.
Great moment.

Even though this is basically dead, I have to make a Jeter post. Another legend from my childhood retiring
One of the very few sports players ever, where it's hard to find anything negative you can say about him.
And forget his incredible on field resume, his off-field resume is/was unmatched:
Jessica Alba
Jessica Biel
Scarlett Jo
Adriana Lima
Vida Guerra
Minka Kelly
Jordana Brewster
Mariah when she was still hot
etc
I'm going to the day game on Wednesday but Thursday night will be his last game in YS, and I'm sure it will be nuts.

Re: Official MLB Thread
Bump, opening day!!
Looking back at this thread I know I shouldn't get too pumped up about the Jays, but there's finally a quiet confidence about this team this year after acquiring Martin and Donaldson. I think the Jays have the most potent offensive lineup in the game and it will come down solely on the pitching of Hutchison and Sanchez as to how good we can be.
I also think the Mariners are the other team to watch in the American league, and should do some damage in the post season.
I might be looking too far ahead but I think the National League side of the playoffs could end up being one of the best ever. Nationals, Dodgers and Cardinals all look ridiculously good and whoever comes out with the pennant will take the World Series imo.

Also the Padres in the NL too. They made a ton of moves this offseason.

I'm one of those who isn't sold on the Padres. They've made some good moves with Kimbrell and Shields but I think they have some major defensive problems in the infield and outfield.
They'll improve big time but I still see them as a 82 win team without a wildcard spot.
