Arsenal didn't sign for the same reason why other top clubs monitoring him didn't sign him, most likely. No disrespect intended here, but Shaqiri isn't going to England, Spain, Germany, Italy or France... he's going to Turkey. Surely that tells you something?

Re: January Transfer Thread: Rumours and BS. Mostly BS.
What's your point about Ribery? He played a few times for Galatasaray, but eventually made his name and earned his move to Bayern playing in France for Marseille.
Fact is, Shaqiri is another young player that would probably need a couple of months to settle and make an impact. He's not the finished article by any means. We need immediate impact, not a promising talent.

A player now considered one of the best wingers in the world moved to Turkey. That's my point.
You were caught out.

Re: January Transfer Thread: Rumours and BS. Mostly BS.
Caught out on what, exactly? One player who played in Turkey for one year happened to turn world class... playing in France, not Turkey. Did that move make Ribery world class all of a sudden?
Can you name any one else who's done the same? Is Shaqiri guaranteed to become world class too because he moved to Turkey?
And you ignored my point about needing immediate impact, not a promising talent. Is that not a suitable enough reason not to sign him now?

If Wenger wants to save Arsenal season he must buy Podolski and another player.
Buy Podolski at any coast I don't care what they spent on him, We sold Nasri for 25 I am sure we can get Podolski for 20.

Re: January Transfer Thread: Rumours and BS. Mostly BS.
Ribéry would have been perfect for Arsenal bar Bayern being cash loaded.
If you ingnore the Turkish league season, he was pretty much made in Marseille and got his name in the French league. Young, talented French player made in France... sound similar?
Shaqiri is playing in the Swiss league. Not exactly a top standard. Not even Eredivise level.
We're not getting Shaqiri when we already have AOC.
Now Podolski...

What is it supposed to tell us? that we can not look at bringing him to AFC until after he spends a few years in Turkey as a perennial journeyman for club and country like Santos.

Re: January Transfer Thread: Rumours and BS. Mostly BS.
... Yah forget about signing Podolski.
Once again, be ready to be outbid
The news comes as part of a series of emails from Lokomotiv officials which were leaked to the media, with the latest a request from the Russian side to Cologne to be told of any developments surrounding Podolski's future.
Lokomotiv have been chasing the German hitman for over 18 months, and are reported to have already had a bid turned down in the region of £8 million last summer.
It now appears certain that they will return in August with another offer, with the Russian media already suggesting it will be as much as £20million, in a bid to warn off other interested parties.
One of those clubs is Arsenal, who have stepped up their interest in Podolski in the last few months, but would not be able to compete with the Russian's level of spending.
Manager Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of Podolski, and was said to be readying an offer during the January transfer window.
But the player ruled the move out, insisting he didn't want to risk his starting role in the German national team ahead of Euro 2012.
It now seems likely a summer auction will ensue, and with Lokomotiv able to offer more funds and a huge wage package, the Gunners know they will struggle to attract Podolski financially.

Barcelona's Eric Abidal signs contract extension - report
The French defender has reportedly agreed to a new contract after several months of negotiations have finally produced a result
Barcelona left-back Eric Abidal has signed a one-year contract extension with the club, La Vanguardia reports.
The France international's previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season and negotiations between the player and the club dragged on for months, despite the defender claiming in November that an agreement had been reached.
It is believed that Abidal has signed a new contract until 2013, with the option for two more years, to be discussed annually.
The 32-year-old, who joined Barca from Olympique Lyonnais in 2007, has repeatedly declared that he wants to end his career at Camp Nou, where he has won three Primera Division titles and two Champions League crowns, among other trophies.
Goal.com, there goes one fullback albeit one that we never had a very good chance of signing.

Abidal is old... I doubt any team would be willing to pay huge sum for a 32 year old fullback. He could have signed Cissokho for 10 mil!! This is so freakin frustrating.

Re: January Transfer Thread: Rumours and BS. Mostly BS.
Aly Cissokho claims Newcastle are holding discussions with Lyon regarding his services, but says there other clubs are interested as well.
"I am waiting for the green light from Lyon," he told Sky Sports.
"I am a Lyon player and if they agree a fee with a club, I will then talk to that club.
"But nothing is done yet and I have not been to Newcastle for a medical.
"Newcastle and Lyon are talking about me, but there are other teams interested as well."
I really dont know what Wenger is waiting for?

Shaqiri excellent in the summer u-21 euros, destroyed Man United, excellent at basel week in week out. Basel in CL knock outs. Shaqiri excellent v England last summer in 2-2.
How much more proof do you need?!!!!! Why do you think Gala are paying £8m ffs?
Maybe we should just continue to watch Arshavin every week. smh.
I'm not saying Shaqiri would save us, but he is twice the player of Walcott, a better footballer than Gervinho and anyone is better than Arshavin.
He is young? If your good enough, you're old enough.
Incidentally, why didn't we sign Ribery ANYWAY?

We might as well close this thread down ffs. Absolute garbage being talked and we won't sign anyone anyway.
Oh no wait!!! We are signing a teenager from Oman. We are saved!
