Koln will demand £16.5m for Podolski, but it seems the forward would only move if guaranteed a starting place.

The time of year when the ITK's all come out of hiding and post their bullshit. Naturally, I'll be 100% sceptical of any "reports" claiming a fee has been agreed for a player, or if a player is flying in for a medical, etc.

YoungGunsBlog or Jamie Sanderson as he is better know, is actually excellent, and knows everything there is to know about Arsenal. Not your typical ITK if you like.
...If you were speaking about him in particular.
But I agree with you in general.

it's still fun to read the ITK rumours though

Oh, no, I definitely wasn't referring to Jamie Sanderson. He's very informative and only reports thing that are factually correct. I was more referring to the earlier rumours about a fee being agreed for Podolski, and things of that ilk.
Man, I hope Wenger signs another goalscorers this window.

Re: January Transfer Thread: Rumours and BS. Mostly BS.
Oh, crap.
Lukas Podolski has ruled out a January transfer to Arsenal. Kon Schramm, the representative of the Köln striker, told the Guardian that a move in the Bundesliga winter break is "all but impossible", citing the player's reluctance to endanger his chances of featuring for Germany in the European Championship in Poland and Ukraine this year. "Köln has priority right now; we have time [for everything else] in the summer," said Schramm.
Despite the Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger's protestations to the contrary, there has been contact with the Polish-born forward in recent weeks. But Podolski, who has scored 14 goals in 16 league games this season, is wary of trading his automatic starting place for a new beginning in the Premier League at this stage of the campaign, especially in the light of Robin van Persie's outstanding form.
The left-footed Podolski has 95 caps and has been a mainstay for the German national team since 2004, but he is faced with increasing competition from emerging talent such as Mario Götze (Dortmund) and Marco Reus (Borussia Mönchengladbach).
While Gervinho's absence for the Africa Cup of Nations would provide the 26-year-old Podolski with an opportunity to play wide left for Arsenal, in the same role he has successfully filled for Joachim Löw's team in recent years, the player is much happier as a centre-forward. He is also very settled at his hometown club. On Monday, he revealed to Bild he was putting off planned nasal surgery so as not to miss five days of training.
A possible deal is further complicated by Köln's stance. The 10th-placed club are €31m (£25.8m) in debt but will not accept Arsenal's mooted offer of £10m due to the player's importance for the team and his contractual situation. A third of Podolski's transfer rights are held by the club sponsor SolarWorld, which partly financed his €10m return from Bayern Munich in 2009. Köln would thus only receive £6.6m, too meagre a return for the political and sporting fallout of selling their prize asset half-way through the season.
It would take an offer closer to €20m to make the economic case for his departure more compelling, according to a club source. But Köln will be forced to accept lower offers in the summer if Podolski refuses to extend his existing contract beyond 2013.

There you go, money talks after all. Don't see it happening. If Lukas comes, he has to be instant starter, the talk of being back up for RVP probably turn him off. for two months of Henry & some loan fullback.

Podolski can easily start at left wing.
He can backup RVP at striker (which he will, considering how often RVP has played).
What more do you want? Make it happen, Wenger We need an Arshavin type signing.

Re: January Transfer Thread: Rumours and BS. Mostly BS.
The guy who authored the Guardian report is the same guy who said we had no interest in Mertesacker. Lo and behold, look who turns up in an Arsenal shirt.
Sure, a lot of that report is quite logical but I don't get how a move to the Premier League would harm Podolski's Euro 2012 chances. I understand that Low may not call up players not playing in Germany, but he's called up Mertesacker for every German squad since he's moved to Arsenal, hasn't he?
Surely if Low sees him as a vital part of his set-up, he'll call him up regardless of what country he's playing in.
I really do hope Podolski doesn't pass up the opportunity to move to Arsenal should it arise because of that. It wouldn't be a wise decision to make.
Incidentally, if he wants to in Koln because he's setlled there and what have you, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I think it's obvious. Poldi has quite some competition in Reus and Schuerrle right now and if he gets benched at Arsenal, it is well possible that Löw will prefer one of the other two who are guaranteed starters at their clubs and thus in form, too.GoonerJay29 wrote:Sure, a lot of that report is quite logical but I don't get how a move to the Premier League would harm Podolski's Euro 2012 chances.

Arsenal are lining up a shock move for Sunderland midfielder Kieran Richardson.
The Mirror says Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a fan of the former West Ham trainee who was snapped up by Manchester United as a kid.
Richardson has two goals this season and has been a regular in Sunderland's side.
But his potential sale would give new boss Martin O'Neill funds for rebuilding.
Richardson has been at Sunderland since 2007 after joining from Man United for £5.5million.

Fulham are eyeing a loan move for Arsenal winger Ryo Miyaichi.
The Mirror says Miyaichi is a loan target for Fulham and Feyenoord.
Japanese winger Miyaichi, 19, had an impressive spell on loan at Feyenoord last season and Arsenal got him a work permit but has not been able to break through.
Fulham are also interested and some Premier League experience may appeal over a second spell at Feyenoord.

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has told Esteban Granero he can leave if he finds the right club this month.
Marca says Mourinho doesn't like changes in January, but has approved Granero's departure given his professionalism this season.
The midfielder has been linked with Arsenal and Everton this season, though Malaga are favourites for the midfield schemer.

The Gunners have been alerted to the availability of Lyon full-back Aly Cissokho after Arsene Wenger confirmed his intention to recruit defensive cover. Manchester City's out-of-favour left-back Wayne Bridge is not expected to join them because of previous injury concerns and his £90,000 weekly wage. (Metro)

Re: January Transfer Thread: Rumours and BS. Mostly BS.
Arsenal Plot Surprise Move for Real Madrid Striker Gonzalo Higuain
Arsene Wenger is reportedly showing an interest in Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain as he looks to boost Arsenal’s attacking options. Whilst the Gunners boss has frequently been linked with Bernabeu attacker Karim Benzema it appears that the Frenchman’s run of good form has pushed his Argentine team-mate out of the first team and led to much speculation about his Bernabeu future.
The 24 year old former River Plate man missed much of last season with a herniated disc and whilst out Benzema, who had an up and down first season at the La Liga giants, excelled and appears to have replaced Higuain as Jose Mourinho’s first choice striking weapon.
Indeed the Paris born Argentine international has started just ten games in all competitions this season but has still managed to hit 14 goals for the Madristas. Form that keeps him challenging Benzema for the right for the single striking position in Mourinho’s adopted formation, which usually sees Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria play in the wide attacking roles either side of a lone forward.
Wenger is looking for a striking addition that will impress upon Robin Van Persie the ambition, and financial ability, the club has to attract big name players. Any move for Higuain is likely to occur in the summer though the Emirates Stadium manager may put the feelers out about the player’s availability in January.
Higuain is said to be keen to battle for a regular spot in the Real Madrid starting eleven but if he continues to fail to secure a spot in the starting eleven, despite his excellent form, then he may well be tempted by a move to the Premier League.
The talented striker is now in his sixth season at Real Madrid and has notched up a very healthy 91 goals in 190 appearances since Fabio Capello brought the lethal finisher in a deal said to be worth around £11m. It would no doubt take a fee of at least double that to secure Higuain, a fee that Arsene Wenger would no doubt agree to pay, despite his usually spendthrift nature, as he looks to add to Arsenal’s firepower.
The likes of Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho have failed to supply goal-scoring support to Van Persie and the Dutchman has now become a player that Arsenal over-rely on up front.
Caughtoffside :/
If Podolski is ruled out then this is prime. But idk about his wages or price. But he's at a ripe age and can't stop scoring.

Higuain is on big wages and will cost a decent ammount unless he's written off by Mou.
God, he'd be perfect, though.
Not happening unless Madrid get another striker. Benzema would be more suited to Arsenal's game, IMO.
I hope there's some movement soon, we only have a month and the quicker we get reinforcements in, the better.

Mourinho said he doesn't want squad exits anyway. But with Callejon, Benzema and Higuain all in good form then something's gotta give. I don't see them all accepting bench time.
