Because we don't have the physical strength in midfield to do so, nor do we have proper holding players to help us soak up pressure for a counter attacking strategy. The fact that we've been consistently destroyed by a number 10 is testament to this.

When i was at school all my teachers ever preached was make sure you win !!! you dont want to be a loser !!!!

All that crap, that is the first thing that has to go if we are ever going to succeed and bringing through youth's of high technical ability at a consistent basis....

Instead of people like Rooney and Wilshere being the exception we should aim at that becoming the norm....

Also another thing we need to do is when we get these player's to U-21 level that actually pick a coach who understands the players strengths and weaknesses and pick a team based on this and one that has a clue tactically.

Another thing that we need get through our thick skulls is that bigger does not always mean better.

Capello deserves a lot flake too for their abject failure in world cup.Its not only the failure of players.So maybe that need a different coach who has experience NT coaching ?

It's not just Capello it's the whole set-up they are seem to not have a clue of what the player's strengths and weaknesses are.....

As Goonerjay said in England v Spain thread the other day.....

It does'nt matter even if we had Wilshere and Mcaechran (sp?) in midfield we would still play hoofball.

Not an exact quote but basically jist of it.

We need to have a set-up of coachs through out the age groups. Who understands the player's tactically and technically and play to thier strengths.

Otherwise we will never achive anything no matter how talented a generation that comes our way.

There was a time, I think the 40's, in which in England, Arsenal refused to sign anyone under 5'8.

Seems like England hasnt changed enough since then.
