It's well worth the read, takes a bit of time to get through but it's well worth it.

We need a B team, a team managed by our own people. We really don't have much control over their step to first team, because they have to go on loan. You can't expect a player without any professional experience compete against the best players in the world for playing time.

Yea, believe that's the one I saw people posting about on twitter earlier today.
Will definitely have a look later this evening.

How would a B team differ from the set-up we have now in terms of bringing players through to the first team?

I can understand wanting B teams, but our current set up is not too bad.

As can I, but I don't agree with the idea at all.

Because our U21 players will play against professional players, and against tougher opponents. Rather playing against youth players.
Imagine if we had a team in England Championship division or 1st division, we won't need to loan our players or at the very least until they have played a substantial professional games.

And it would take years on years for them to even get into the Championship, in the absolute best case scenario.

Re: Chelsea Youth & Reserves thread
But in the meantime will be playing against Conference-level opposition or lower year after year until they make it up there (and that's assuming they even do). How's that meant to help it when it's on a very good path right now already?

How is it a good path right now anyway. I am sure our B team doesn't have to start that low anyway.
Not sure who they are in a good path right now? Chalobah, McEachran and Baker of the world grew out of the league at age 17.

Winning or competing at the top of their Leagues regularly? FA Youth Cup wins out the wazoo? Deep runs in Europe? Christensen, Aké, and Baker on the first team roster this season?

Did I imagine all this?

If all our youth players were not on loan they would crush every competition, it is just not competitive.
Chris, Ake, and Baker are hardly playing lol. They need more playing time.

Re: Chelsea Youth & Reserves thread
And how have the majority of the Chelsea youngsters that were/have been loaned to Championship or League One sides fared? Most ride the bench, getting sub appearances often but failing to make a good enough account of themselves to lock down a starting place. Which is why the idea that a prospective B team would just breeze into the Championship is fantasy in itself.

I actually like the idea of Baker, Ake, and Chris not being loaned.
The loan system is a hideous beast. Beside Chelsea they don't care for the development of our players. If they perform they will play them if not they are getting benched, there is no patience with them. They will not give them a few games to turn it around, because it is unproductive from their prospective. Look at Piazon last year he was arguably one of the best players in the league in the Netherlands. What happens when he went on a slump? he barely played after that. 19 years olds are going to have set backs, because that is part of the learning and development process. Say if that happened at Chelsea B, you would see Piazon still getting playing time because they care for his development and are invested in the player. We also saw the same thing at Boro with Josh, the team went on a slide and he was blamed and benched for their demise. Immediate result is what they care about, and that is not a good environment for a development of young players.
I hate the loan system, the sooner we have a B team the more likely we will develop our own players. But tbh i have little to no faith of adapting such model because the FA is incompetent as hell.

Re: Chelsea Youth & Reserves thread
The efficacy of a B team would be dependent on its staying in the Championship or at the very least League One – something whose accomplishment I think would be far from certain.

I think it is very well reasonable but there are no certainty.

Re: Chelsea Youth & Reserves thread
Think we rate our own players far higher than they actually are. And only naturally, I suppose.
But it would seem a pretty big risk to want to take when things aren't exactly horrible as they are right now at all.
