Re: How good is Guarin?
He is like a bigger version of Ramieres with more skill, passing and WAY better shooting. Not quite as quick though.
Could be a useful player for most teams in Europe.
LOL at Gaitan being poor mans Di Maria, nothing alike.

Re: How good is Guarin?
Freddy Guarin the Porto player?
very, very, very inconsistent throughout his career. Has mental issues actually lol. He was in the dog house at St Etienne and with Porto when AVB was the manager. Completely benched by both.
If he was a full season of good performances, then i'd rate him .

Re: How good is Guarin?
He was not completly benched by AVB Sport, dont know what your talking about there.
He is inconsistent and so on, but he played a very important role for Porto.

Not sure how to answer that.
I think if he was more consistent he could start for some big teams, but he would still get some criticism for his lack of certain things.

He started the season horribly last year and slowly got time as the season ended and did well finally. But he was buried the prior 2 seasons at Porto and was openly criticized by AVB throughout (even early last year).
Like i said, his emergence is very recent. He was known in France to have a bad attitude.

he is a colombian midifielder, really strong, can score from far, sometimes he can impress you with some link up plays...when he is angry he shows the best of himself...LOL

AVB was coach for just one season...he criticised him 2 years before that point while not at the club?
He did that as coach of Académica and Mou´s assistant at Inter?
Sounds to me like he was a bad kid in France and cant shake the rep even if he doesnt deserve it anymore.

Re: How good is Guarin?
Anyway, the only reason Guarin didnt play more was because he was injured for alot of it.
He played like 20 games, started half and scored like 5 goals,
Played the important games, like Benfica home and away and the Europa final.

Whoever the manager was at Porto was always pushing Freddy to do more. I should have said Porto and not AVB. He played on and off. His talent was apparent, even in France... but he's just too inconsistent and seemed to either lack hunger or go crazy. He's never been part of the starting 11 anywhere for a full season. He gives glimpses that make you want to take a chance on him, followed usually by stints in the starting 11... and then he dips in form. His potential has carried him so far and some key performances.
His mental makeup has always been the question mark. He's not all that young anymore either.

Re: How good is Guarin?
I agree with that. But he is now 25, so not a kid anymore. Lets see which direction he goes.
Last season he was very good for Porto when he wasnt injured.
Before that, he didnt play and when guys like Lucho and Raul M, its not that surprising.

Re: How good is Guarin?
And then had an injury.
Maybe he's turned a corner. I've just seen a lot of him in France and quite a bit last year. He was basically pushed aside at St Etienne... but that was 4 years ago. In Port last year, i saw 5 games and he looked effective with moments of very good play.
Not an elite club candidate imo. Needs to show his quality for a full year to get that kind of attention imo. He's 25 and he's in his prime.

Re: How good is Guarin?
Great player. I agree he doesn't have his Porto form, but then again, he doesn't have the Porto midfield. At Colombia he's pretty much the only standout midfielder.
Still shackled by Rincón, though

Re: How good is Guarin?
Guarin is one of my favorite players.
he is one of those perfect B2B players
good on the ball, great in a tackle and has lungs of steel
he will move to a bigger club in the future.
he would have been perfect for what Arsenal need atm
