Platini's Comments on Messi's Potential Hattrick Of Ballon D'ors

I thought they weren't in good taste and was actually disappointed that an individual I quite look up to decided to do a Pele for some time.

He said that he won three Ballon D'ors at a stretch and Messi would match his record and then likely beat it. In all this he was helpless because he came to Juventus at the age of 27 while Messi came to Barcelona at the age of 13. So if he had got a chance to join Juventus earlier he could have won some more of those awards.

I feel that he is conveniently overlooking at least one vitally significant point. In those days this award was competed for by Europeans only. That means firstly he never had to compete with Maradona. Secondly I have read more than once that even before Maradona came into the limelight, the best player in the world was not Platini but Zico. Messi on the other hand is winning while competing with everyone around and is clearly the best player of his times no question. So who's awards should be considered of greater value?

More of the old guys drinking haterade because Messi is a threat to them.

Maradonna is the only older guy who talks alot who is still at least real.

Most of the others care too much about their own reps to have some 24 year old surpass them already so they will do anything to talk him down.

And Maradona only supports Messi because he is Argentine. If he were Brazilian it might be another story (although he is a noted fan of Ronaldinho).

Pretty funny that he was using a "if" situation to make himself look better because if the ballon d'or went to the best player in the world at his time, not just the best european player, then he would have won none seeing as maradona would have won every single year...
