Van Gaal returns home
Van Gaal will officially become Ajax General Manager in july 2012.
Van Gaal is still officially under contract with Bayern, hence the delay.
In 2010, he said he would never return to Ajax with old Cruyff still around.
wonder what changed...?

Ajax are a great club, I just hope that a 60+ old guy will be the right man for them, you know. Personally in Ajax's current situation I would have looked for someone younger, someone fresh.

Ajax are doing what Bayern ae doing atm. Part of Bayerns financial successs is down to clever management by people who love the club. I say this but Van basten, and Danny Blind almost took them into bankrupcy when they were managers. Van Gaal has previous experience, so does cruyff. Johan will be the one to make them great again!

Re: Van Gaal returns home
They bypassed Johan Cruyff completely in making this decision.
Ajax is currently a freak show with basically all the big names in Dutch football mingling in trying to restore the Godenzonen (God's sons) to what they used to be.
Sad that they had to bring the old senile dictator back for this. Wrong move.
But alas, if they are ALL there, they must be able to do something good in the crable of beautiful football.
I am sad you guys. Oh so sad.

I thought Cruyff was in control now? How did they bypass him?

Re: Van Gaal returns home
There is a lot of trouble with on the one hand Cruyff being a nazi and the board of directors which includes Davids (who actually suggested Van Gaal).
Cruyff has said that he will leave Ajax now this has happened, because Van Gaal and Cruyff hate each other with a burning, burning passion.
Van Gaal actually coming isnt completely certain yet, as the stockholders have to vote I believe. Its either Van Gaal or Cruyff, one of the two will leave as things look now (Both have confirmed that).
Ajax, Ajax, Ajax.
Weeks ago the whole Van Basten drama, Hiddink too.. Urgh.
Well, we will see.

You could be right, but on the other hand a realistic danger is that someone with Van Gaal's achievements and ambition (and age) won't be patient but will look for short-term success. And short-term success and financial well-being usually don't match in running of football clubs.

Thing is too, this will be likely be the last job of many of those involved (Cruyff's final project (cry!), Van Gaal's final project (before people finally realize he is at a far advanced level of Alzheimers) etc. so they will make it last and will want to leave their mark.

Re: Van Gaal returns home
Well,
It has been Cruyff versus the other 4 members of this important council for the past months. Cruyff refuses to leave even though he is fighting with basically everyone.
The other 4 approached Van Gaal while Cruyff was in Barcelona and didn't know this was happening.
Van Basten was afraid of all the chaos going on at Ajax and didn't want to become director for that reason. Hiddink said he didn't like the atmosphere for the same reason too.
So yeah.
Tears. One day we will be back.

Aside from largely ignoring the immigrant populations, Ajax youth system has been doing well in recent years, as it always has.
Basically all the noteworthy players (save for like 2) in the Netherlands WC final team are Ajax youth production. So are most of Belgians young talents.
Scouting of young talent almost second to none.

would be better if Van Cluelesston didnt waste money on stupid signing, why do you think Ajax havent produced any amazing talents lately? 70s Cruyff and the golden era team, 80, van basten and co, 90s bergkamp and co, 200s sneijder and co, 2010...erickson...They stopped inversting heavily in youth since the bosman which makes sense but most of Ajax's profits come from the sale of their youth products and they havent been selling for a while which is why the lcub is in soo much trouble atm...

Eriksen will be gone soon enough. Van Gaal cant help himself but argue with the teams best player.
Idioit coach who lost whatever he had a long time ago.
Only good at controlling young players who are too afriad to stand up to him.

I agree completely - luckily Eriksen is somewhat sensible. And luckily Van Gaal won't be the coach.
Van Gaal was actually never really that great a tactician as well - he has only ever thrived when he had a
team with a clear great starting 11 who he could motivate. Once he has the opportunity to show his vanity, he will make ridiculous decisions just so he can be "I told you so" after, which often fails. He is indeed good with talented young players though, which Ajax currently has plenty of, but De Boer needs his freedom.
Plus the man is so vain, so past it, he lives in a totally different world. He is essentially just crazy.

Re: Van Gaal returns home
Cruyff, who has never hid his dislike of his fellow countryman, said: "They've gone mad."
"I do not know what I have to say. To start, I knew nothing, nothing, really," Cruyff told Voetbal International.
"You think you are on the right road and then suddenly this happens.
"Legally, they all know how it works, but of course it stinks all around."
Cruyff claims he was in Barcelona when the meeting was scheduled and was unable to return to Holland in time to attend.
"Until Tuesday afternoon I was still in Amsterdam, and only then did I go back to Barcelona," he said.
"It is very coincidental that the next day a meeting of the board is called.
"I could obviously not be there."

I sure hope so. Eriksen looks like a great kid with a smart head on his shoulders. Hopefully not even Van Gaal can drive him away if he does get the job. I sure hope he doesnt because of his history.

Its a real shame. He should be our honorary president, no doubt about it. Not proud of the way he has been treated by Rossell.
Though, its also true he probably doesnt even care. Thats just the way Cruyff is I think.
