Gibbs or Santos?
Left-Back spot
This one is really difficult. Gibbs i think is able to recover from his mistakes alot better than Santos. However, Santos defending style is unique and it does work quite well at times. (This is actually how i defend myself in football ) At other times it doesn't (Mata ripped him a new one at one point). However, he is light years ahead of Gibbs in attacking, and he's scored more goals for Arsenal this season than Clichy has for Arsenal in 8 years!!!!

I think it was done when we knew very little about Santos. Now we know he's style and we can see what peeps really think.

I really like Santos he adds something different to Arsenal. Gibbs should be used against certain teams only.

Re: Left-Back spot
Hmmm, maybe Santos as starter. And Gibbs against the bigger teams?
dunno really i mean Santos did score against Chelsea so he could still be important against big teams. Aggghh

I really think Santos should be a striker in some games , we can start with a CC game.
His ball skills are just crazy love the guy.

Re: Left-Back spot
Gibbs is as much out-of-position just like Santos is, attacking wise Santos is helping us so much it's underrated already.
I'm pretty sure Gibbs will become a beast, he's young - but Santos edges this atm for me.
Wenger will rotate, so we'll see them both equally.

Miss Diaby. I really think that if he wasn't injured all the time, and was consistent, he could be great. But that's not part of the thread.

If it was not for Santos goal the Chelsea game could have ended bad imo.

Re: Left-Back spot
Its kinda hard atm because Santos has been good lately but he still needs to lose som weight and focus more on defending and Gibbs on the other hand is getting better and better every game but he is injured for most of the time. I will still go with Gibbs.

Re: Left-Back spot
Santos slowly becomes fan new cult after king Eboue of course. I don't think we have to worry which choice since Gibbs will recover from injuries, make some cameo appearances then come straight back to medial center and chill out with Diaby, Almunia and Squillaci.

^^ True. And Gibbs won that round.

This, and Santos' style, makes him first choice for me. Plus he is also in the adapting phase and can only get better. He has made our left flank oh-so-good! Add Jenkinsson's sexy crossing from the right to that, and if Chamakh gets his form back (okay here I stretched it), then we'd be scoring from crosses and headers, something we don't usually do. Makes us more potent as goal threat.

I do hope he improves his fitness in the next 2 years. Santos is 28 already, Gibbs remains the future first choice LB. Didn't we have a certain Pedro Botelho chap who also played LB? He has permanently been on loan or something right?

Is there any reason for Chamakh's form going out the window once RVP came back?

Re: Left-Back spot
How about Vermaelen? Vermaelen at LB would mean more solidity, for obvious reasons, and also more flexibility as the 4-2-3-1 could shift into this:
Szczezny
Koscielny Mertesacker Vermaelen
Sagna Song Wilshere
Ramsey
Walcott RVP Gervinho
which could help in pressing, space manipulation, and ball retention. Koscielny Mertesacker Vermaelen
Sagna Song Wilshere
Ramsey
Walcott RVP Gervinho

Re: Left-Back spot
Now this is tough....
I just don't know. Santos has played very well of late overall and also gives us more going forward but I like Gibbs too. And Gibbs was playing well before he got injured (again), his performance at Tottenham last month was impressive.
I think Gibbs edges it for now, but I am happy with either.
