Favourite FPS Ever?

Before the dark days of brown, samey, gritty FPS's with regenerating health and "cover" we had a golden age of FPS's.

So, what is everyone's favourite FPS?

Spoiler:

Doom 1 + 2. Spent huge amounts of time playing them in my childhood, even enjoyed some "Simpsons Doom".

I loved Perfect Dark on the Nintendo 64

Goldeneye. Although Duke Nukem 3D was pretty much what got me into gaming, so it has to be named.

Golden Eye on the n64 for me.

Golden Eye on my xbox was just amazing
especially them homing missiles

Call of Duty: United Offensive

ah how great it was before they added all these noob enhancing features.

Goldeneye or Counter-Strike(either 1.3 or 1.5, forget the rest they're irrelevant). Goldeneye probably had the best offline multiplayer I've ever played. And with CS I probably had the most fun of any online FPS.

Duke 3d (tought me some good curses too)
Delta Force
Half Life
Stalker

There are a few good, active servers left in Europe which I like.


Call of Duty (the original one) and this United Offensive expansion pack, what a great, great, godly game.
Most importantly the weapons were / are perfect. Actually somewhat difficult, too. What bothers me the most about today's FPS games, like the newer versions of COD, is that the weapons are "modern" and, imo, too easy to use. Just push 'n' hold that mouse button and empty your magazine with a rate of million bullets a second while not getting any significant recoil... Fun and easy for beginners to grasp, but the gameplay suffers.

of the list, id say Timesplitters 2, then Goldeneye. But from that generation my favorite would be Quake 2/3, DOOM (1,2,Final), and last but certainly the best IMO, UNREAL TOURNAMENT!!!

how has no one mentioned UNREAL?

Unreal Tournament

The assault mode and the Facing Worlds CTF map, along with that deathmatch space map I can't remember.

Great find, it's like one of the most underrated games ever. Totally shit all over Quake 3.

This poll is extremely biased towards console fps's >.> While Timesplitters Future Perfect is my favorite multiplayer FPS of all time (it's the "natural" successor to Goldeneye) this poll is sorely lacking in the Doom and Wolfenstein series, as well as Duke Nukem, Unreal, Quake, Rainbow 6, Half-Life, Descent, Serious Sam, Ghost Recon and I could go on...

honestly out of the choices
i loved Counter Strike
I used to go to these gaming cafes and play that for ages
I wasnt very good though
