Who deserves to be in the Ballon D'Or shortlist?
Khedira vs Mascherano

Khedira made the Ballon D'Or shortlist, but Masche has won more and is a better player (in fact, exactly the kind of player Madrid lack... and need). So do you think Khedira deserves the higher recognition?

I'd rather have Mascherano at CB but Khedira in my midfield.
Masch is a DM beast but I find his attacking contribution lacking, IMO.
Kheds is more balanced but not as good defending.
Dunno, depends what you want.

Khedira is a tank in the miedfield , busquets isn't than him by anything but in diving ...IMO khedira is the best CDM in the world next to Gustavo - Song and Tymo

Mash is a better ball winner and destroyer but as an anchor man he is such a fail.Also mash always gets his yellow card when employed as a DM.
Khedira is a better ball player,better passing and superior reading of the game and less reckless tackles(infact least yellow card for any ball winning midfielder).

I’d rather have Mache since he provides an alternative in the CB area as well. However I’d pair him with another DM rather than leave him as a sole anchorman in my team

Khedira would get raped by a prime Kaka, unlike Masche who had him in his pocket until his substitution which lost Liverpool the game.

It depends on what your team needs. Khedira is more well rounded than Masch so I'll give him my vote but Masch is an exceptional specialist

That being said, the defensive attributes that Mascherano brings to the table more than make up for his lesser attacking contribution. And let's face it, that's exactly what you want in a DM: a good measure of security.

DMs can't be all defensive nowadays, Alfred. It's probably why he was pushed further back from Barca's midfield. He's just nowhere near Busquets when it comes to technical skills or other Barcelona midfielders.
In a double pivot midfield he'd excell though, IMO.

Exactly, as a lone DM he wouldnt be as effective as when pair him with a deep playmaker such as Alonso.

Mascherano doesn't have the skills to be the lone DM in Barca's system. Busquets has. Yeah, he's not the DM beast Masch is, but his technical skills are great and his positioning top level.
Now, as ICS knows, alongside Alonso or a similar technical type he's totally boss.
Factor in Argentina matches where he hasn't been too great, either. He needs someone technical to help him out.
