Marcelo and Alonso. However Coentrao might be able to perform Marcelo's role and Sahin might be able to perform Alonso's role.

Re: Who is the most influential player on the team?
I've thought some more about this topic, particularly after the past few games.
I think without doubt the most influential player is Alonso. Not only is he irreplaceable, at least until Sahin is healthy, he is the on field captain / coach as someone earlier has spoken about.
The others are Casillas, Ramos and Ronaldo. There are lots of other important players but none that can't be substituted occasionally for. These 4 guys are almost 100% of the time in starting line-up and are very seldom substituted for. If you remember back to last year (early), Mou had actually named these 4 as his key players on which he would build the club around. It's now a year and half later and that statement still holds true today.

It's, usually, the one guy on the team who will go down as an all time great ( along with Casillas ).

Well, Ronaldo will certainly go down as an all time great, but Alonso is more influential in our team. So that theory doesnt really hold water.

I certainly agree that it's subjective, but that is as far as I'll go. Stating, that Alonso is, as an indesputable fact, itself doesn't "hold water".
Summary: It's a matter of opinion, which why I used the word "usually" ( but I do feel that itis Ronaldo because he scores so many goals and changes the other team, if you will!
I do understand the logic of a more central player being the "Quaterback", however!

I also think that Ronaldo does (or used to?) influence our attacking game a lot, but not even close to Alonso.

coentrao definitely cant do half of what marcelo does at going forward...mainly passing and drifting into the penalty boxmtfootball wrote:Marcelo and Alonso. However Coentrao might be able to perform Marcelo's role and Sahin might be able to perform Alonso's role.
