Your Top 5 favourite Guitarists?
Here are my top 5:
The top 2 guys are undisputed for me, they are my all time favourite guitarists and will always make the list as the top two. the next 3 in my top 5 change position from time to time depending on what I'm feeling like... I hate being lazy, I actually find it very hard to make a top 5 list because of the number of great guitarist that I love, but I didn't really feel like making the list any bigger...
1) Eric Clapton: Some say he just rehashes licks from the old blues greats. I totally disagree with that view point, I see it as him building on and respecting the old greats while taking it in a new direction. Whatever your view on him is, there is no doubt that there is music in his soul, and that music speaks to me more than any other Guitarist who isn't number two on this list...
2) Duane Allman: Clapton Called him his musical brother and when they came to getter on Layla and Other Love songs the world saw why. The man was an absolute genius, I mean when you make Dickey Betts look average you know you are something else... Together with his brother Gregg, Dickey Betts and the rest of the Allman Brother band they did something truly special, something that will live on and a sound that will echo through eternity even though Duane was taken from the world at just 24...
3) Stevie Ray Vaughan: Another Guitarist taken early, he was an absolute freak. He took a Jimi Hendrix song AND MADE IT HIS OWN! While the First two on my list are pretty smooth SRV had some edge to his style and really brought blues rock to another plain...
4) Jimi Hendrix: The Man many believe is the G.O.A.T. He took guitar to a whole new level with his inventiveness and sheer style. While he isn't technically the greatest guitarist even seen (in fact he was quite sloppy) like EC he has music in his soul and it just burst out whenever he played. You truly felt his music. I was gonna go for an abstract example then realised that half this forum are heathens so here's a classic from the master...
5) Jeff Beck: Beck was something else, another Yardbirds product (The Yardbirds were a band that at one point or another had Eric clapton, Jeff beck and Jimmy Page as guitarists I mean WTF!!!) he was another innovator. He is probably the most technically gifted guitarist on this list (though SRV man give him a run) and he coupled that with great musical sense to some up with some great music that can really only be discribed as Beck music...
So here is my Gun to the Head top 5, what are your's?
