Is Giorgio Chiellini Worldclass ?

Of course Chiellini is world class.

He was stand-out player in all of Juventus average sides in last 3-4 years.

Take a note also, it is twice as a hard job to lead defensive line, when you have mediocre coach.

That is what I say. This friend of mine, a MU fan, says that Chiellini is not worldclass, but believes that Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are.

Anyone else think this is absurd ?

I told him if Chiellini had Vidic and Evra and Rafael, he would let in as many if not less goals than the MU backline.

Only Vidic and Terry are better than him. 3rd best CB in the world, without a doubt. As good as Barzagli, Cannavaro (way past his prime), Legro, and Bonucci are, Chiellini has had the misfortune of not having a world class partner in defense, wo he doesnt look as good sometimes, but if you gavehim the same defensive partners others have, such as Ferdinand or Alex, Chiellini would look pretty much just as good.

I understand that Terry has not been at his best lately, but I was referring to him ON FORM.

Yes, world class no doubt. Would love to have him in my teams.

He had a slight dip in form last season, but considering Juve's overall form I wouldn't really put it all down on him.

You also have to take into account he has been paired with many players, so chemistry isn't in top level and you're only as good as your partner is. Bonucci, Barzagli, Rannochia in the NT... he's also been deployed several times as left back.

Nonetheless, excelent player and if we take his loyalty into account he can become a legend.

Really is though. I guess it is even more great because he has essentially no ulterior motives to receiving a PhD, whereas someone who studies to attain it may be doing it to make money, or get a specific job. That is why it is so great.

I call him the "Analytical Mind;" can analyze the economic trends as well as the movement of the best players in the world.

Definitely has manager potential. A lot of great managers have economic backgrounds.

Agreed. This is so not like him though, and this is what worries me, in essence. He will be back though.

He was looking shaky this past weekend against Genoa and made a few clear mistakes, some of which really surprised me, but I also think he will bounce back.
