Thanks.

An article by Graham Hunter is always nice, even though what he says in this one I have read before.

I really liked these lines from the Guardian article.

"in an age when all elite-level football is unavoidably Xavi-tinged, where every variation is on some level a Xavi-variation"

This is probably one of the best ways to sum up the achievements of the maestro in one line.

Over long distance, Pirlo is the man for the ball over the top. From shorter distance, 40m and in, I would go with Cesc.

Xavi can do both, but his choice of pass is very different.

In terms of final passes, what sets Xavi apart is he can and has done all kinds of passes, nobody has shown his variety.

1 touch passes, balls over the top from long or short, scoop passes, reverse passes and more.

Great comments dani. I also think nobody has shown Xavi's variety.

How do they choose those players? Pretty sure Cambiasso has over 20 as well

You know I always rated Cambiasso very highly, but there is a big gap between him and the other players there.

I think that table is just among all time great players.

I just read a wonderful article on Pirlo and his exit.

Has anyone seen any truly outstanding article on Xavi and his exit?

In this article on Pirlo I read this comment which I found worth highlighting.

"Perhaps no one since Michel Platini has been so accurate and effective when it comes to the lofted chipped ball over the top of the defence."

What are your thoughts? Was Xavi equally good at this? Better? Any other names you can think of?

As dani wonderfully explained,Xavi's choice of pass is different.Pirlo and Fabregas pull the trigger on every 50-50 opportunity.Xavi wont.
If Xavi was as trigger happy as Pirlo or Fabregas,I am sure he would have just as many successful attempts if not more.
It's the ability to execute all types of passes to a high degree of excellence that set Xavi apart.Even the elite passers struggle under pressure.Xavi maintains his pin point accuracy even under extreme pressure. As I mentioned previously,I rate Laudrup as a more genius passer. But overall,Xavi is the man.

Agree completely. I also rate Cambiasso very highly. As you said it's basically our original golden trinity visavis the greatest legends of the game.

An interview with the maestro. I read every word of it religiously and hope I can remember all of it.

Reading the maestro's thoughts is a close second to watching him on the pitch. Do not miss this one.

Most welcome. I also really liked that part. What struck me most was how much affection he retains for his former team mates and how he encourages and stands by every one of them.

Iniesta's comments on Xavi when the maestro was leaving us :-

"I am out of compliments. I will not find anyone at the stature of what he represents as a person and a player.
"The figures, the years, the feelings, his way of doing things are beyond any words. He is a unique player, unrepeatable and has been fundamental at the club and with the national team.
"It is a true pleasure and privilege to have had my entire career at his side."

Xavi has extended his time as a player with Al Sadd for two more years. He is happy to continue being part of what he considers a family atmosphere and the club are delighted that the maestro is staying with them.

It was probably the only option for Laporta. He knew he had to create excitement for the fans. Not much to be happy about these days, even Ansu was poor against madrid and now his other knee is injured.

Xavi coming is big and will for sure give the excitement and stimulus that is needed

Number 1 priority for me is player growth.

Players simply do not improve with us anymore, it used to be the case years ago that even lesser technicians (Abidal, Keita good examples) jumped up to new levels in terms of composure and ability in small spaces. Now, partly due to tactics but also overall development players are going backwards or sideways in their progression.

Some guys have done well but I have no doubt they'd be even better with better coaching. I have no doubt guys like Dest, De Jong and even Pedri would be slightly better players with better work.

Every player who leaves, says their new club train more or harder or with more emphasis on certain aspects. Even Konrad has remarked this and he has been in OM for a couple months. It's simply not good enough and this has to change. Hopefully Xavi recognises this.

Interesting Konrad said that. He played with the B under Pimienta. And Pimienta is a very good youth coach. Not a surprise players have stepped up to the first team recently. Clearly a Pimienta influence. So, not sure I agree with Konrad. Unless he was talking about the first team.

On Xavi, excited and wish him all the best but my expectations are really low.

I need these players to shut up, work hard and do what they are told.

They have simply had enough changes and chances to turn things around. In any other period in our modern history, most definitely since the late 90s, more than half of these guys would be gone already.

None of these players hold a candle to the legacy Xavi has. Follow him or get out should he the message in my opinion.
