ahh thanks for this recommendation, never even heard of it haha, just watched it now... how do you interpret it?
- Spoiler:
Im thinking obviously the story is told in retrospect, both timelines. I actually think it's a very sad story though, and I think in actuality he committed suicide (jumped of the building) and Gabrielle was some kind of metaphor/wish he had? Idk, very tough to piece together.
Overall i think it's a nice little creative, surreal film... but i can only say i really loved it and judge it accordingly if i understand what it is trying to say because it obviously deals with big themes of destiny and life after death/out of body experiences. And i think at the core there's also the grief of losing his parents - thinking he might have been the reason for the accident.
Got another film for you on Netflix. Its called Atlantics.
- Spoiler:
- I really don't think he killed himself. I think the movie was all about him coming to terms on fate, and how he can escape it. I felt the ending symbolized him letting go his past demons.
The soundtrack on I Lost My Body was superb. This is on repeat for me for a while.

I still maintain that Kill Bill the Whole Bloody Affair would've been a top 3 movie of all time. Damn what a miss from Quentin, fckn Weinstein.

This looks fucking incredible. Lin-Manuel's musicals are something else. Love them.

Don't call me James wrote:Marriage Story - 8.4/10
Fantastic film. Definitely in my top 5 for the year. The acting is incredible and the film is very emotionally charged. Best performance of their careers for both Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, I thought.
These are the only films this year I've given an above 8/10 rating. (For reference, I almost never give an above 9 rating unless they instantly go into my all time favs list, last movie to get an above 9 was Arrival):
Endgame - 8.6
Joker - 8.6
Parasite - 8.6
OUATIH - 8.5
Marriage Story - 8.4
The Irishman - 8.2
Midsommar - 8.2
Knives Out - 8.7
My favorite of the year easily. Such a fun film. Can't remember the last time I enjoyed watching a movie as much as I did this. I loved the tone of the film. Everything just fit so perfectly together. And strangely even the weird Daniel Craig southern accent worked because of the tone, I think had the movie taken itself too seriously that accent would have been awful. Absolutely recommend it.

Yeah because it looks super average. It will be a decent popcorn movie to turn off the brain and watch. Kinda like the Fast & Furious movies.

Agree 100%.
Arguably still the best movie I've ever seen. Yet that trash Martian got an oscar nomination
loved it when it first came out, but it hasn't aged that well for me. Pretty standard first half of the film, love the space missions, and the metaphysical sending of a message through space and time in the ending is beautiful too, but just felt like there was so much filler in between which made for a more discombobulated film theme-wise.
I agree it was slow but I thought the pay off at the end was incredible. Easily Nolan's best film.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Easily lol.
Not when Inception, The Prestige, TDK exist. I have it 4th personally. I was higher on it initially because of recency bias and the mindblowing factor but even at that time that ending was bad. And on a rewatch it doesn't live up to the same level whereas the other 3 do.
Still a great movie because Nolan's movies are special and even his worst work is good stuff.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Interstellar is my favourite by far as well.
Inception, the idea of the story is unique, but many scenes are like your run of the mill run and shoot action thriller movies. Interstellar is a larger than life movie throughout and for the most part scientifically correct.
Memento was pure boredom, though I watched it like 10 years ago so might have to rewatch.

TDK is the worst of Bale's Batmans, and it's probably the most overrated movie of all time. Didn't like Inception nor Memento either, Prestige is great.

Yea, same. Didn't like TDK and thought it was overrated. Honestly preferred TDKR and BB. Rewatched it recently and enjoyed it a lot more than I did the first time. Has taken me about a decade to warm up to it
I thought Inception was okay, didn't really acre for it either way. Enjoyed Prestige.
Dunkirk was just boring as hell. Had no substance to it I felt. Very well made movie but just felt very hollow.

Dunkirk was ok, ruined mostly by Zimmer's score. I mean what kind of drugs was he taking? Close your eyes and it's another Batman movie.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Interstellar is a great film and I really enjoy watching it. Wonderful watch in theatres...certainly very memorable.
With that being said, I agree with El G. It hasn't aged very well for me. I just don't think I got into it emotionally as much as other films.
For me, even just looking at sci Fi, I can't think of what Interstellar does better than Arrival, except the epicness and the grandeur of the film (which, don't get me wrong, is one of the things I love about interstellar and certainly is one of it's strong points for me).
But epicness is rarely sufficient on its own to make me truly love a film. In the end, I've rewatched Arrival more than Interstellar, tbh.

Interstellar was the more memorable film for me given its is surprisingly accurate for such an ambitious space film and hit many notes for me but there is no doubt Arrival is the objectively better film and the same could be said for Villeneuve over Nolan himself.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Nolan will only improve by this point anyway but when people praise him they forget the key figure who is behind a lot of the genius many behold upon the screen to which is from his brother.
His films are very fun to watch and Dunkirk was a masterpiece.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Just watched The Warriors (1979) that RG has been raving about. Wasn't as impressed as him, can see why it has a bit of a cult following though. Not my cup of the tea the way it is for me to take much more liking to it, but it's always nice to see 70s/80s film with the night time setting.
Can we talk about how when Cyrus said "suckas" and "can you dig it?" but he never pulled off the prime Booker T and said "can you dig it, suckas?"
The movie reminded me of Beat It - Michael Jackson, and now it's stuck in my head
