I actually like Eriksen and I'm a firm believer in buying low... but Spurs won't sell low, which is the problem.

Calm down, Gramps

5.7 million compared to 67 million.

Are you out here flexing on San Marino too?

Not all nations can reap the same benefits from destroying and colonising an entire continent as France can.

Relatively speaking, in history, it is clear that France have underperformed while Denmark have hugely overperformed in terms of NT titles and achievements.

And let's not forget what a sad, low quality affair that last World Cup was, with the possibly most unremarkable winners ever. Compare that to Denmark 92 for example, these are proper heroes.

really?  name an NT with more finals and trophies from 1998.

Also, we were utter garbage as a NT (and rightly so) before 1978.  That 1978 WC as the start of France emerging as a football country.  We never even made tournaments before that other than the Kopa years.

And NT football, with its significantly lower level of competition, is one thing.
Another thing is competing at the top of club football, at the highest level.

If you think that, with all their talented players, French clubs have only ever won TWO proper European trophies, out of all the European Cups, UEFA Cups, Europa Leagues or Cup Winner Cups, in all of history, you have to conclude that French football has been a complete and total failure, on the whole.

Because our best players leave for clubs that pay more at a very early age... French football is not about Ligue 1 at all.  Our academies are second to none and it's been like that since the mid 80s.

French people don't spend money on football.  It's not a passion as much as other places.  Clubs survive by developing and selling players.

I really have no idea what your argument is.  Platini and Zidane are considered two of the top midfielders ever and have won every trophy there is.  Thuram, Desailly, Amoros, Lizerazu are considered some of the best defenders ever and they've won every club trophy there is as well.  Henry, Trezeguet, Djorkaeff, Deschamps, Makelele, Vieira, .... and I'm not even talking about this generation that won the WC and you have 90% of the players on that team that have won elite competitions at club.

So what's your argument again?  ThatFrench players underperform or some silly shit like that because Ligue 1 clubs don't win?

Name a country that's been in more finals since 98, hmm...

Well, upon looking, it's a 3 way tie between Brasil, Argentina and France. Using the World Cup, the EC and Copa America, it's essentially:

France: 98 (W), 2006 (L), 2018 (W), 2000 EC (W), 2016 EC (L)
Brasil: 98 (L), 2002 (W), 1999 CA (W), 2004 CA (W), 2007 CA (W)
Argentina: 2014 (L), the remaining 4 in Copa America (all L's)

Not really considering Confederation Cups, the youth tournaments, AFCON, Asian Cup, Olympics and definitely not Gold Cup as that'll just be USA or Mexico winning this argument.

Also, I love Freeza's answer. Colonising has down wonders for certain countries' football. Bless that Atlantic slave trade route lol.

Nope.

France has made 3 out of the 6 WC finals, winning 2.

Brazil made 2 finals winning 1.

Germany made 2 finals winning 1.

Spain won 1 in 1 final.

Italy won 1 in 1 final.

Croatia made 1 final.

Argentina made 1 final.

Netherlands made 1 final.

These are the 12 finalist in the last 6 world cups.

I left Euro and Copa America out because, frankly, they play Copa America whenever they want to lol while the the Euro is every 4 years.  Case and point... there have been 5 euros and 7 Copa America since 1998.  It's not a fair comparison.

I mean, Copa America has always had a checkered past when it comes to scheduling but from the Copa America timeline (wasn't always called that), it has been every 4 years, then 2, then 3 for a bit and now back to 4 minus the Centenary one and that was a special event made for Messi to win something for the 100 year anniversary.

Also, if you're gonna give parameters to just point out that "France is the mightiest footballing Nation ever", you could have just not say "most finals since 98" lol.

and they invite random teams to it...  is there even qualifying for CA or is it pure invitational?  You actually need to legitimately qualify for the Euro.

CA will be every 4 years starting next year. They invite 2 teams to make it a 12 team tournament but after 2020 itll likely become 2 groups of five. 2016 was just for money.

Scheduling for this tournament has been disorganized. They are changing it again.

Still, no one can argue that it is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world dating back to the early 1900s. Might not be a big deal to you all, but for south America it is

There are no qualifiers though.  You're invited.

Not saying it's a bad tournament, not prestigious or anything.  I'm just saying it's NOWHERE as competitive as the WC and the Euro.... where it's a journey just to make the tournament, let alone win it.

When many of the world's greatest footballers to ever kick a ball played in a tournament over the course of a century, I personally find it hard to disregard its prestigious quality just because teams don't need to qualify and they invite 1 or 2 teams to participate.

They're french as much as they are african..

France has their problems with integration.
But they're still French at the end of they day.

French-Algerian, etc, whatever, they represent both countries. So no, @unique, they are still French. And coming from me, you can bet I don't want to say that, but it's the truth.

They play in the club world cup too...  and confederation cup...  and whatever else cup.

You play wherever your NT or club tell you to.

Doesn't make Copa America (the current Copa America) on par with the Euro.  Problem with it isn't that there aren't great NTs.  There are.  But the organization is half ass AND it's short tournament (no qualifiers) AND it's by invitation (what's the criteria for that anyhow? FIFA rankings??).

To me then, confederations cup is just as good if we're going to count CA.  It's also invite.  It has great NTs.  Etc.
