1998 team was much better defensively (especially the fullbacks; but also the CBs) and Suker was a WC striker. This Croatia has a better midfield obviously, although Boban, Jarni and Stanic were no joke in 1998.

Overall, the 1998 team was younger and had better quality imo.

Both teams would probably be in the final of this tournament. That said, no player on that list is miles better than any of those 3 ^

I have the same opinion I had at the start of the tournament. Only Suker stands out from the 98 team over this one. He scored in every match. This Croatia has no one like him but the rest of the team sure matches up, and in terms of scoring they all do it. The whole team is involved in everything and now there are 8 scorers in the team.

It's not a coincidence that it's their first final and likely their first golden ball (Modric). If they ever had a team miles better than this one, they would have a world cup trophy already.

This 2018 squad is very complete and they play like it.
