Another less than spectacular win, but a win nevertheless.
Happy to see continued improvement, but this side still has weak points. Hopefully those get worked out soon.

Re: The Sarri Era - Chelsea 18/19
I think the biggest weak point we have is our team composition.
Our striker choices are pretty weak atm, and that doesn't bode well with the fact that none of our midfielders is prone to being a goalscorer/making runs at the box.
Thank god for the *bleep* madman Marcos Alonso though. He's a liability defensivily, but he's trying his best to fill his role, and he's been great so far. Always in the opposing box, always at the right place at the right time, always making plays. I'm sure he will end up with at least 10 goals and 10 assists this season.

Agreed. I'm not expecting the title this season because of our weaknesses.
Alonso is channeling his inner Ivanovic, only on steroids right now.

Yea, I remember the start of the 14/15 season where Ivanovic was basically playing as a wide forward and was having a stupid amount of goals and assists Good comparison.
I feel like one quick way to fix a weakness we have is to just replace Luiz with Christensen. There's a reason Conte only played him in a back 3, and Mou/Benitez played him in midfield. He always has had games like today where he's near perfect for 89 minutes, but completely turns off his brain for one instance where he ballwatches and we concede. Don't think we need his ball playing capabilities either when we have midfielders like Jorginho, Kovacic and Cesc. Christensen isn't that bad on the ball either. I hope it will happen sooner or later.

I can't claim to be the first person to make the comparison, I saw it on WAGNH.
Christensen is fine on the ball, no worse than Luiz. I do worry about Christensen's strength but he surely can't cost us more than Luiz is at present.

Re: The Sarri Era - Chelsea 18/19
Not a fan of Alonso because I think he is a liability defensively, and from an attacking he doesn’t provide width or consistent overlap. But credit to him for making the differences as end product goes.
The FB in this system need to provide width and create greater number in attacking areas.
I also in games like we could have used Cesc, outside of Jorginho I am not sure we have anyone who can provide deadly passes.
Speaking of Jorginho, I absolutely love watching him on and off the ball such a brilliant midfielder. I love how he find pocket of spaces to move into and make him self available elviate pressure of others. Damn I am glad he is not playing for man city.
Kovacic is a true CM unlike Barkley, he was immense in our possession dominance. Want to see him show more from a creative and attacking sense he has much more to his game.
Rudiger and Christensen is the future and should be the present too. The complaint each I other so well. Rudiger with his athleticism and passing range, AC with his calm and composed ability on the ball and defense.

Re: The Sarri Era - Chelsea 18/19
To be honest, if we can really sell Alonso for more than 40m Euros, I'd take it. I think someone like Alex Telles would be a much better option there.
As for the midfield, Cesc shouldn't be needed against most teams if we have Jorginho and if Kovacic improves his output, which I am sure he will. Cesc will always be handy against the weaker teams who park the bus.
I'd also like to see Christensen start, but there must be a reason for Luiz playing, and as long as Christensen gets a decent amount of game time this year, I will be happy.

Newcastle made it so difficult for us, hopefully Bournemouth come to play a bit.

Re: The Sarri Era - Chelsea 18/19
Great start of the season result-wise. I remember that Sarri's Napoli first season started with some very bad results and they were out of the title race from the start. It's good that we won all of our games without even fully adjusting to Sarri's ideas and hit our peak.
The game vs Liverpool will give us a good indicator of what kind of title challenge we can offer.

Exactly.
I am happy with the results and the improvement but there is still a ways to go.
I think we'll be one of the best next season. Top 4 should be the goal this season, and we're very much on course for that.

Would love to see him be moulded for the Jorginho role, usually not a fan of converting ball playing CB to CM. But in this case he has all the qualities you want in a CM. Jorginho and Kante hybrid.

Re: The Sarri Era - Chelsea 18/19
Wonderful game by Eden, but my main takeaway is how we play so much better with Giroud upfront.
He's not even doing anything special, he's not being a goalscoring threat. He holds the ball upfront and links up with the midfielders so well, he always fights for the ball and presses, is always at the right time in the right place.
No wonder Deschamps stuck with him for the whole World Cup, and won it too. He should be our starter for the season. Not even for this game, even in the previous games, our attack worked so much better when he was subbed in.

Re: The Sarri Era - Chelsea 18/19
Morata is absolutely useless without space to run into, with the way we play it will be rare to play a team who will not park the bus. Definitely want Giroud as our main striker until proven otherwise.
The Liverpool game on the 29th it will be interesting, i expect a loss unfortunately but you never know. Think it is still to early for this team under the new system.

Re: The Sarri Era - Chelsea 18/19
Yeah, Giroud needs to start. Shame we don't have another goal scorer on the other side of Giroud. I suppose Pedro counts, but somone like Sanchez, Muller, or Mbappe would be a dream.
I also saw a point of view that (unsurprisingly) put forward that Christensen should start over Luiz because both have a mistake in them, but because of the age difference, Christensen will learn from it and improve for the next 10 years, while Luiz only has 2-3 years left in him. Hopefully, Christensen impresses in the EL and cup games, and takes Luiz's place soon.

6 wins in the row, but a possible injury to Pedro.
Satisfactory but improve is still possible.

Hope we can see some youth tomorrow, this guy seems rather youth averse.
Not sure I'm a big fan of that side.

I will forever want our players to do well and I hope Morata kicks on and proves us to all the player he can be. I do get the feeling it's another Torres false dawn though.
Also disappointed that CHO didn't play and Ampadu didn't get off the bench. Happy for RLC though.

Re: The Sarri Era - Chelsea 18/19
Latest reports suggest that Madrid would prefer Neymar or Eriksen over Hazard but their new policy means they prefer to promote young players over buying another galactico.
Interesting, perhaps we will keep Hazard after all.
Also, Alonso has announced that he expects to sign a new deal by the end of the month. Good news overall.

RLC putting his name forward for the first XI. What a game
If JT never got a hattrick, then this is the first youth player since the 80's to score one

Re: The Sarri Era - Chelsea 18/19
RLC and CHO getting game time is enough, imo.
Drinkwater and Piazon are not wanted, even Sarri said he has too many players.
Also, I don't think Drinks is in our EL squad.

Another solid win. We're on a great run at the moment and we're looking good for top four.
Sarri also said that Moses and Drinks are not in his plans at all. Interesting he didn't mention Piazon. Either way, I expect all three to leave in Jan.
