If it wasn't Inter you would see this clearly.

Or if it was Juve, he would complain and moan about the decision for days

The Demon of Carthage wrote:There's a difference between a selling club and a club that simply doesn't want to keep players against their will.

If any of those players hadn't wanted to leave, Roma wouldn't have sold them. Prime example of that is De Rossi and Totti. Madrid went through hell and back to get those two at some point, but when both didn't want to leave, Roma immediately ended the negotiations.

They are not a selling club, they just happen to be unfortunate enough not to rank at the very top of the food chain. Because they don't have a very strong financial muscle, other clubs will always find it easier to tempt players from the Romas of this world to sign for them than say a player from Man City or PSG.

It has its downsides but at least they don't keep players against their will like PSG for example.

Not quite. Totti and De Rossi are something else to Roma. The rest of the big recent sales were not all players trying to leave. The best example is Nainggolan and Strootman. These two didn't push Roma to sell them. Strootman would have stayed, Nainggolan even said he was forced out iirc. It's enough to follow him to know that staying in Rome would have been his 1st and 2nd choice. Choosing to sell one of your best players to a direct rival is ridiculous.

We paid Pjanic's and Higuain's release clauses when Roma and Napoli were knocking on our Serie A dominance. These moves caused huge outrage with fans of the clubs (rightly so) and from then on all Napoli contracts with release clauses are only valid outside of Italy, an anti Juve clause. Many followed this pattern in preventing another such situation.

Then 2 years later Roma goes and offers one of their best players and symbols to their most direct competitor in Inter.

I was always positive with Roma because I like the passion and romanticism they show towards their team and players. Now not anymore. Monchi was supposed to elevate them but instead they look like they have sacrificed ambition and status. Imo the best case scenario for them is that enough of their gambles in the market succeed, and they end up with a few really good players with increased value. In this positive, still, they sacrificed their season(s) unnecessarily.

It's harsh when VAR is rewards Inter, but fair and reasonable when it harms Inter.  Makes sense.  It was a VAR decision FFS!

It was a wrong decision, above all. Terrible. Inter got lucky there.

Now that's funny, a clear hand ball, as confirmed by VAR and somehow a wrong decision.  VAR will assign a penalty with a clear hand ball like that 100% of the time. Now if your complaint is that there wasn't enough clear evidence that the referee missed the hand ball and VAR should not have been called, then it's a reasonable complaint, that I disagree with completely because all sorts of hands went up when the hand ball took place and the VAR referee is watching the match too.

This 3-5-2 suits Dybala very well but not Ronaldo

Its a bit complicated to accommodate both adequately

I think you will have to sign Benzema eventually. It's hard to accommodate any player with personality alongside Ronaldo

The movement is there. It seems like the 3-5-2 suits Matuidi the best, tonight anyways. It's nice to see Dybala up front. He's been far too far from goal this season

It is, but were also just much more forceful at home and this is a team without players like Douglas and Bernardeschi in the 11. I'm so impressed with Cancelo, he's been a fantastic signing, defensive frailty outside of the first 1-2 games aside.

Cancelo and Cuadrado look at home as wingbacks. Same for Bonucci in the center of the back 3, Matuidi in a more free role, and Dybala in a front 2. These guys are really benefiting from this setup, all were wonderful in the first half.

I didn't like our defending against Frosinone. That shouldn't even be a sentence, but there it is.

They got down the flanks too easily in the first 45 and at times in the 2nd half too and some of the passing out of the back was still pretty lazy post-ritiro. I'm just imaging Lazio's wingers delivering to Immobile or SMS cutting through the middle and that's a huge worry.

The derby is the derby though. Form doesn't really matter much. We've won these handily with bad form and have lost them spectacularly with good form.

The Frosinone win may have looked like it alleviated some pressure on EDF, but in reality I don't think it has. We were expected to beat Frosinone and we did. Not much of an achievement. Beating a game Lazio in one of the most important fixtures of the season? Different story.

Weird, I've read Surag so outraged yesterday because of an Inter pen caused by Fiorentina handball, and nothing about Pjanic who has renewed his licence to kill ( next match is Juve-Napoli). Weird

whats weird is how similar that foul is to Vecinos foul on Mandzukic, yet Inter were robbed for getting exactly what you want Pjanic to get here.

I watched about 60 minutes of the Empoli-Milan game.

Surely Milan was better and attacked more, yes, but IMO they made the game too open. At the first half the match could have seen 6 goals with kind of chances occurring at both ends.

Milan obviously has more quality than Empoli but not to the point where it needs to/can overwhelm them. They pushed forward hard and were constantly caught fumbling to run back at counters. A tighter game with more control would suit them more, play a bit conservatively to secure matches.

If they win their game in hand, big if, they go from 14th to 7th. With Inter and Roma being so irregular Milan still has a chance to get in the middle of things. Problem is if Milan can actually figure out their play before the other two teams can, I don't think so.

Great matches tomorrow.

Roma-Lazio

Lazio (4th) started with two losses, vs Napoli and @Juve. Can't fault them too much for these. Since then they've won the last 4 matches 8-2 aggregate. Inzaghi might have figured out the defensive side of his game. Lazio look more solid at the back now.

Roma (11th) started with a win and then collapsed. Doubts about the personnel and the system see them with 1 win in the last 6 matches. EDF turned to a more natural 4-2-3-1 and after a training retreat beat Frosinone 4-0. While this works for teams that can overpower, imo 2 midfielders would get murdered by Lazio. We (Juve) saw this happen too many times.

Rincon's infallible prediction: 1-2 Lazio

----

The main event, 1st vs 2nd: Juve - Napoli

Juve: we are having an awesome start to the season, 7 wins in a row (A + CL), 4 clean sheets. Everyone scoring and getting involved. Many systems have been used by Allegri so far with many combinations of players, so there are 4 doubts about who starts tomorrow. Regardless of who has played, the weight of the team remains and matches have gone well. 4-3-3 looks like the choice tomorrow, 3-5-2 also possible. The question marks are who will play on the right (Cuadrado vs Cancelo), a midfielder, and who will partner Ronaldo (2 of Dybala, Mandzukic and Bernardeschi).

Napoli: Like Allegri, Ancelotti has been experimenting a lot. It only backfired against Samp terribly with a 3-0 loss. Otherwise, he has been impressing everyone and has built on Sarri's team. He switched to a kind of 4-4-2 putting Insigne and Milik forward. Insigne is second in the capo list, and the pair has 8 goals already. Carlo has rotated a lot, and all have responded well, so it can be extra midfielders on the sides (Zielinski) or wingers (Callejon and Verdi).

HYPED for this, Juve 2-0 :coffee:
