Re: DONE DEALIO: Sarri to Chelsea
going to be very interesting to see who he brings with him from Napoli. This move and the repercussions could potentially make Serie A even more boring than it is now.
Best of luck to him though. I think those looking to see what this guy is really all about are going to find out pretty quickly

I don't think it will have the negative repercussions you're assuming it will have. This is just a classic ADL move, ala Higuain and all the other things behind it. He could've easily extended Sarri but gave it some sort of ultimatum deadline, got fed up with Sarri's agent and said *bleep* it. He then signed Ancelotti and moved forward.
It's hard to imagine hiring a manager like Ancelotti only to then gut the team so that Sarri can have a strong squad at Chelsea. They were already poised to lose Jorginho as it has been reported for months. Whether or not they lose some others like Koulibaly, Hysaj or Mertens could have happened with or without Sarri.
I think ADL will give Ancelotti some good players.
I can't wait to see Sarri at Chelsea, legitimately the opposite of Conte in ideology but still firm in his management style. Short passes, high pressing, lots of movement. I'm particularly excited to see Kante and Hazard in this system

Re: DONE DEALIO: Sarri to Chelsea
Chelsea won't pay Sarri's £7m release clause, but talks have progressed well.
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/may/31/chelsea-maurizio-sarri-napoli-release-clause?CMP=share_btn_tw
Seems a bit strange that Sarri is still under contract at Napoli despite already replacing him with Ancelotti. Or maybe this is actually a common scenario and I've just never seen it reported on.

Re: DONE DEALIO: Sarri to Chelsea
Aurelio De Laurentiis: "I chose Ancelotti cause he doesn't insist. Not like Antonio Conte that was too demanding with me. Sarri's clause has to be paid, and I don't give any discounts".
It's not a bit strange, it's just because of De Laurentiis, he's a *bleep*. He would rather pay Sarri whatever is left on his contract then release him for free if there's a chance that a club will pay 8M. Current contract runs until 2020 from what I read.
Sarri is now trying to sue Napoli and Napoli is trying to sue him. Do you understand what I mean when I say provinciale? De Laurentiis is a scemo

Re: DONE DEALIO: Sarri to Chelsea
Contracts are contracts.
Sarri shouldn't have signed it if it wasn't going to be honored.
ADL is not in the business of losing money.

He got replaced while still under contract, ADL will have to pay him the remainder of his wages.
If he releases Sarri he'll save 4-5 million (I can't remember his wages but I think they're in the 2-2.5M per season range). ADL is obviously doing this out of spite, he's literally willing to pay Sarri to not work than to allow him to go to Chelsea without them paying the 8M release clause.
It's either earn 8M
or spend 4-5M

Re: DONE DEALIO: Sarri to Chelsea
apparently ABramovich also shelved Chelsea's stadium rebuild because he keeps getting his visa delayed/rebuffed, so can't enter the country? I'm seeing this online anyway, via The Guardian. I think the days of Chelsea paying silly money are on hold, at least in terms of netspend. I don't doubt that they will refuse to pay Sarri's release. Kinda scummy all around tbh, should have sorted all this stuff out BEFORE people were stepping down and being replaced.

Re: DONE DEALIO: Sarri to Chelsea
So basically, Napoli has 2 managers on their payroll?

Re: DONE DEALIO: Sarri to Chelsea
Its common. Towards the end of the B&G banter era Milan had 4 on the payroll at one point iirc.
Whenever a club sacks a manager usually he is on payroll until he gets a new job, his contract expires, or is terminated in agreement.

It's very common, the uncommon thing would be spiting said manager so he cannot accept a job because he is still contractually bound to a club that has already replaced him

If Chelsea were willing to spend the 8m Napoli would have no say in it whatsoever

Of course. Chelsea just does not wish to pay this fee be I understand that completely given that it’s a release clause for a manager that’s already been replaced

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has refused to confirm or deny reports that the club want former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri.

Re: DONE DEALIO: Sarri to Chelsea
Chelsea knew about Sarri's past when they first considered him. If they don't end up appointing him it will have nothing to do with his previous history and everything to do with money. If his lawyers can make him a free agent let's see what happens. If not..

Re: DONE DEALIO: Sarri to Chelsea
Maurizio Sarri’s agent brushed off questions about Chelsea after talks reportedly broke down. “Are they a football club?”
The Coach was fired by Napoli to make way for Carlo Ancelotti, but under Italian rules, his contract remains valid until it is terminated by mutual consent.
There was the option of activating a release clause worth €8m, but that expired last night and therefore is no longer relevant.
Chelsea had been expected to pay the sum, but refused to go ahead with it, asking Sarri to extricate himself from the contract first.
Sportitalia caught up with Sarri’s agent, Alessandro Pellegrini, and he made some surprising comments when asked about the situation.
“I don’t know who Chelsea are, are they a football club? We only know about Napoli.”
Dat butthurt

Re: DONE DEALIO: Sarri to Chelsea
I'd be pissed off too tbh if he was supposed to join Chelsea in a done dealio and stepped down from his former club, only for the team he was joining to then tell him no.

Re: DONE DEALIO: Sarri to Chelsea
Bet you, Spurs pay that release clause. I think he would be a good replacement for Poch tbh. He'd virtually be swapping for the English Napoli as well.
What Poch says right now to the media shouldnt be taken as gospel tbh. If Madrid strongly pursue him, Spurs would have no choice.

Re: DONE DEALIO: Sarri to Chelsea
they're his only option unless Mehlan oust Italian-Fellaini, otherwise I guess Sarri's sitting out for a year.
Ambramovich is a massive *bleep* tbh, very scummy move for me.

I don't disagree with you under normal cirumstances, but I believe this was Napoli's best shot (this past season) to take down Juve at the top of Serie A. They have a track record of replenishing the squad, which is great for them, but they are losing the coach and philosophy.
I am a firm believer in Ancelotti, but it will take time to bring his ideas into the fold.
Jorginho, u are correct, was going to leave anyway... but anyone like Insigne, Mertens, Koulibaly, Hysaj, Zielinski Allan, or Callejon then they are not going to pose a threat at all (fully willing to eat crow if they win the scudetto). With no one else really in a better position to challenge Juve, its gunna just make the league even more boring than it already is.

Or rather Madrid pay the release clause for Sarri on behalf of Spurs. That way everyone is happy.
Why don't Madrid take Sarri instead? Only because Pochettino is better behaved? Maybe also that the latter has La Liga experience.
So in Italy a coach's job can be given to someone else and it's completely legal as long as the former coach is being paid. Bizarre.
Re: DONE DEALIO: Sarri to Chelsea
I don't think its exclusive to Italy
It's just in every other case the club will release the manager from his contract should he wish to pursue another job, as the club will then be released from paying said manager for the duration of the term.
For example, lets say Milan fires GOATTuso this season after extending him until 2021 in April of this year, they will still be obligated to pay him until 2021. But then lets say Sevilla comes knocking ahead of a crucial Champions League tie with Manchester United, Milan can release Gattuso to take said job and forego the responsibility to pay him.
This is only even remotely an issue because the man in charge goes by the name of Aurelio De Laurentiis
