nacho? come on....to be honest, i'm not a big fan of nacho. i mean he hasn't gotten enough appearances for me to reach a conclusion about him. i know i said zidane needs to try something drastic, but nacho at dm is a bit extreme. how about kovacic? my worry with him is he may become too adventurous, but i don't see why we have him in the team and isco is getting minutes.....i'm not really into the spanish team, but i'm also surprised why they're calling him up? like why is isco getting all these chances? maybe there's something he's doing on the pitch that i'm not noticing

He even gets called to Spain NT tito...  along with Morata and Nacho Laughing  Didn't Vasquez get called up too?  I like Vasquez btw.  He's limited... but like Casemiro, he does the few things he can do really well.

Both Modric and Casemiro are out. So unless ZZ wants to go with the magnificent trio of Kroos/Isco/James that all defenders dream of having in front of them, Kova is most certainly going to play.

Not sure about the deep role though. He was a disaster in that position with Inter. They tried him there for a few games.

vazquez should be our first choice substitute. i understand the problem with him is he primarily plays one role and that's as a back up to bale. but i feel the staff can be innovative in this instance. i really distrust isco to the point where i have forced myself to believe vazquez can play in the midfield better than isco....even though that makes little sense, because his strengths are pace and crossing. but to me, isco is like a poor man's guti

If we play a 442, sure. Morata behind Ronaldo on the attack, Bale left, Vasquez right, Kova/Kroos in the middle. It could work tbh.

that's not a bad idea...the problem with that is, we have nobody on the bench offensively. puts too much pressure on those starting, especially bale who will no doubt get his own bout of injuries. but it isn't half bad to be honest, hell on paper now that i'm imagining it, it seems kind of good. vazquez can provide width, morata can go at players, and kroos and kova can sit deep....i mean against the likes of las palmas eibar et al, this looks not bad

this has been james' mo since he signed with us. he gets injured with madrid, yet either travels with colombia or even plays with them, and in many cases plays well. if you're injured you shouldn't be travelling with your national team, if you're using the international break to visit medics abroad and in your country, that's fine. but to get a call up, accept a call up, and travel, after you were just decelerated injured prior to a league game is reckless and a tad unprofessional

even if you end up not playing, the last thing you need is jet lag from travelling all the way from spain to colombia and back, when you should be resting and getting fit. especially as a player whose career with this club has been riddled with injuries upon injuries since we signed him for 80 million and let go of a much better footballer only to replace him with this baggage

Pepe-Varane is fine... Varane looked fantastic against Bulgaria. Think he's finding form. Was very aggressive and clean.

so james gets hurt, instead of resting travels all the way to colombia, gets there and withdraws from the squad and will travel back to madrid....unnecessary travel and jet lag for nothing. its reasons like this that makes me blame players and not the medical crew. the decisions players take in their personal lives plays a huge role in their proneness to injuries and recovery time. even the best medical practitioner would prefer his/her patient to avoid long flights if you're hurt....smh

It wasn't his fault though, Colombia insisted he travel to South America to be assessed by their medical staff even though Real Madrid advised against it.

They wanted to nurse him back in time to face Uruguay. So he didn't really go there because he wanted to, he was ordered to go there.

if you're injured nobody can force you to do anything. a simple "my doctors have advised against it" will do. no disrespect to colombia's football association, but if he got hurt under our watch, with the kind of facilities we have, what makes them or him think they'll get him back into fitness that quickly? i am very sure, if he really did not want to go, he wouldn't have gone....foolish decision. i don't blame their fa, they don't know the player's body and aren't with him at length. if you're hurt and you're trying to recover, you avoid the travel. he's their best player, they will not complain about the decision

Actually tito, France requires that injured players who were called up to undergo mandatory backup testing.  They are forced to travel to the NT facilities and undergo an examination to verify the veracity of the injury during the international break... FIFA has given the NT federations the authority to require such medical examinations and players are required to acquiesce.

The NT can waive this if it wants to. But the clubs have no say in the matter.

Reason this came to be was that clubs/players were lying about injuries... especially those that had to travel very long distance and didn't want to. Players were being pressured by clubs (especially the big clubs) to lie.

travelling from spain (britain, germany, italy, holland) to france isn't a big deal. which imo most of those called to the french national team play their football in those countries than outside the shores of europe. travelling by air all the way to colombia is very different, and common sense should dictate to all parties involved that if a player is hurt, the last thing he needs is a long flight. i repeat nobody would punish or sanction him for that, he's their best player....a foolish move on his part

Nothing he could do... if the Columbian Federation required him to take a physical, he has to go or face suspension that would cover both club and NT. It's not optional.

Anyhow, Ramos out for 6 weeks. So we'll see him in December.

i seriously seriously doubt that. seriously doubt that. are you trying to say that, players who are injured, who say they're hurt can be forced to travel all the way to do a physical (even though their clubs have more sophisticated medical facilities), and if they don't do so can be suspended from NT and club? please...didn't france try to force ribery's hand to return? and he wasn't even injured, he just wanted to stay retired, and nobody fined or suspended him from bayern if i'm not mistaken

that argument makes absolutely zero sense. you say you're hurt, you can't travel but the nt who don't pay your wages force you to travel for a medical. only to tell you "yes you're injured, go back to your club".....that makes sense to you? its not a dictatorship, you're hurt you can't travel, you have a medical clearance from your club with top medical staff, nobody's going to force you to do it.....and they don't have the jurisdiction to suspend you from club football. i'm not buying the "he was forced" story at all.....it makes ZERO SENSE

its not like we are running a tenth grade medical facility at madrid, that colombia would force him to take new tests

Yes they can.... and do.  Most often, if it's a serious injury, the NT federation either sends its own doctor to the player (wherever he is) to perform the physical or they hire a local doctor to do it or they just ask for the medical records from the club to see the details.  But they can force the issue if they want to.

My opinion on this?  James wanted to go to Columbia and this was a good excuse.  He didn't ask for a waiver too hard.  Most times, the player can get a waiver from his NT if he asks for it.

It's always a battle between clubs and far away NTs.  PSG has had a lot of problems with Cavani being forced to travel to Uruguay despite being injured just to get confirmation.  Of course, like James, Cavani wanted to go home for a bit... One time, Cavani returned late from such a trip and PSG was able to fine him Laughing I think it was last season or the one before. Lavezzi also did dumb stuff like this.

Nothing a club can do.

Lucky for us we have talented third and fourth choice CBs. I trust Nacho to fill in for Pepe and do the job well.

Actually, I trust him more than Varane because, and as opposed to the Frenchman, Nacho is calm and composed and less likely to do the stupid mistakes Varane has been doing lately.
