Man Of the Match thread Empty Man Of the Match thread

Post by Adit Sun Aug 23, 2015 2:34 pm

After Roma game 18/2/16

Modric-108
Ronaldo-72
Navas-60
Varane-56
Marcelo-44
Kroos-42
Casemiro-34
Bale-32
Ramos-32
Benzema-26
Carvajal-20
Isco-14
Vasquez-12
Nacho-12
James -10
Kovacic-10
Pepe-8

It is simple. After Each game you vote for top 3 performers of the match.

like this

1.Benzema
2.Coentrao
3.Arbeloa

1st placed player gets 10 points

2nd gets 8 points

3rd gets 6 points

Big games gives 20,16 and 12 points respectively. Big games are the usual tough games of the season and then some tough games depending up on the form of the opposition and situation (like 3 games in one week, third one becomes a big game or second one which one is away game)

Big games will be decided before the game and in some special cases if everyone agrees i will even count some games as big games after the game also (depends on toughness)

we add all this and take average at the end of the season. This way we wont forget about what happened in the first half of the season.

@adit, this is a very good suggestion. i do have a few questions, what do we classify as a big game? and when do we make such classifications? is it before the match? is there some sort of uniform agreement on whether or not said match is a big game? for instance, no question about it, el clasico is a big game, there's no debating that. the madrid derby, especially nowadays that atleti have began giving us trouble, is a big game, no doubt

BUT, in a situation where there's a liga dark-horse, do we all make an agreement on how big the game is? cos the next thing is, fans who like one player will say "well that's not a big game", those who like another will maintain that it is (even though imo the team should trump fanboyism, but at least this thread can put things in perspective)

another thing, is big game characterized by team or by circumstance. e.g. a scenario where we are second on the table by a point and need a win to go top close to the end of the season, but we're playing against a resilient betis side, who are defending like their lives depend on it, in the event say varane for instance goes beast mode and scores a crazy late winner, whilst also putting in a dominant performance, that sees us top the league, does that rank as a big game or not?

I would have loved us to calculate the overall score of the players (say 1st-3rd) over the 38 match days and the overall score for big games (assuming we can decide on which is a big game)..
In my opinion, a big game should be the usuals i.e barca, atletico, valencia, real sociedad maybe sevilla, bilbao then any league/point decider.
Ideally, it should be before a match day, but again, u may only find out how tough a game was after the said game in some situations.. For instance if ramos scored the winner with a bycicle kick on sunday in the 95th min after a very tough game where real were unsually subdued for 90 mins to kick start the season or maybe in the middle of the season (against this same gijon), wouldn't that be considered a big game performance? In reality, its all too subjective imo, just as valencia or sociedad for example may be trully aweful on the day but would still be considered a big game which would be far from the truth.
If this can be decided on then we're pretty much good to go then.

Usual big games means, Atleti x2 , Barca x2, Valencia x2, Soceidad away,Bilbao away,Villarreal away,Sevilla away, and the big CL matches- PSGx 2 so far.

Depending on situation- Like if teams is tired and was going to draw what ever the team was , opposition team is in great form. Those games also will be counted as big games.

Special Case- Every one thinks one game was an easy game but plot twist happens (like red card or 2-0 down ) but if some one performs especially well to save some points then those games can also counted as big game depends every one agrees.

If fanboys fight over big games selection , my decision will be final.

We can still vote for the match against Gijon? And to piggy back on what Bankz stated I think non fans should be allowed to vote unless it gets too trolly and out of hand

Great idea.

2. Modric

For today's match:
James
Keylor Navas
Bale

I saw James provide more creative output than Bale which is what made me chose him over Bale as my MotM. Navas gets second simply because he literally kept the clean sheet when his defenders did their very best not to and clean sheets matter.

To me:

1. James
2. Bale
3. Ramos

Navas' save would've been important if we were only 1-0 up. A clean sheet is important, but I believe Ramos had done a terrific job...and that bicycle kick? That would've been an amazing goal.
