not talking about the people here, but kinda glad USA lost, so many cocky people out there talking up a storm how they were going to easily win the tournament.

anyways congrats to Jamaica.

General approach of most US and Mexico fans going into any given Gold Cup, to be honest. Even given their poor form Mexican fans were just as cocky at the start of this tournament. Difference at this point is that they still have a chance to live up to that.

I've said for some time now we wouldn't reach the finals. Honestly shocked we even reached this stage of the tourney considering our level of play has been so poor. I'm realistic. Meanwhile a win vs Germany in a friendly and USA was walking around like they were something extraordinary when in reality are nothing more than Concacaf fodder like the rest of us.

this is generally what i mean, i'm aware regardless of what team fans will be fan but the general tone has been that usa got this in the bag blah blah blah.. although maybe it's just me hearing it from my american friends.

also since mexico barely qualified for the world cup i've had zero expectations from them lol

I find it funny that you can simultaneously massively generalize "American fans" as being cocky while discussing the Gold Cup with several US fans definitely NOT confident from the start about the team's chances and write off the similarities of Mexican attitudes that mirror US merely because you personally felt differently. That's some amazing levels of cognitive dissonance you're displaying.

And yet another mysterious penalty to Mexico.

If any mexican player had a sense of fair play, he should purposely miss the penalty

It's not "taking it personal," but it is the very definition of generalizing when you say "so many" talking about it from one side... nevermind also completely failing to acknowledge that it happens on the other as well.

Ochoa's haircut was about the most entertaining part of this tournament, till tonight of course. Funny thing is, if Mexico loses, the third place game will get way more ratings then the Panjam (Panama v. Jamaica) game and if it's held in the same stadium the place will be empty for the final. Concacaf was hoping for USA v. Mexico and couldn't make it happen lol.

they probably wouldn't be cheering if they showed the replay but i think they've stopped doing that in matches to prevent the players from killing the ref.

Congrats to Jamaica, lovely match from them. Not too sure what happened with the US though. You guys usually play better than this, guess it was just not a good tournament for them.

Mexico yes. I can't even say good win as a form of patronizing. I am just thankful it happened to Panama and not Trinidad. Lord knows how foul I would have been on this forum...or in general.

But I wish them luck in the final. And a better ref. Preferably someone who actually knows football.

Hope Jamaica smash Mexico into oblivion after that game. Only one team earned their berth in the final. That's for sure.

Post by Lord Awesome Thu Jul 23, 2015 11:19 pm

Well, first I should say congrats to Jamaica cause they won their game fair & square and have shown to be competitive as a team. Their Copa America performance was defo, while not glorious but not shameful either, was not a fluke, IMO. Klinsmann needs to get out of USMNT, tho. How can you not put Gonzalez as the undisputed CB starter of this US team. Clearly, Brooks isn't the answer and Alvardo should be an RB or Stopper on a 3 CB system. Guzan made a mistake and payed for it. Donovan vindicated now, for sure. This is Klinsmann's 2nd F-up in a major tourney and I still don't see a reason to change my opinion of him.

Now, for Mexico. First thing I want to get out of the way is that I wanted Mexico to win. However, I didn't like the way things went down against Costa Rica who also experienced mistakes by the refs. Still, I wanted them to win here against Panama. After the events that happened yesterday , tho, all I can say is that I felt great shame in wanting Mex to win. The decisions made here took me back to Chelsea Vs Barca 2009 & Korea Vs Italy & Spain 2002.

After the chaos with the Panamanian bench occurred & right before Guardado took the pen I thought to myself (in Spanish) at that moment, "The judgement of Mexico NT's character is being tested here. If Guardado does the honorable thing and misses on purpose, Mex lose but can hold their heads held high. If he makes it, then Mex will have tarnished any good reputation the referee had and have assured a stain on their own success."

Guardado scores. The damage is done. I expect consequences to the ref that Mex decided not to spare.
