I dunno, I enjoyed that finale honestly.
ICYMI, this show isn't quite going to be the bombastic extravaganza of chaos like Breaking Bad was. It's an entirely different monster and I don't think the comparisons with BB give it due justice. That's where a lot of the disappointment comes from.

Re: Better Call Saul
Don't know how I feel about this show. It's not rubbish, but it's also not great. It's good but not quite all that....I honestly don't know how to rate it.
I feel maybe it's too centred around Saul, they need more characters, other storylines. branch out more. Scene after scene it's just him talking or doing things, you kinda lose track of the brief cameo's of the other characters in the show.
It also needs a better pull after every episode ends. A cliffhanger or something. I was watching each episode sporadically, one every week and a half. It took me like 2 weeks to bother watching the final 2 episodes, almost felt like a chore to do so, to get it over and done with.
That's my thoughts on the first season. Started off very well then dipped towards the middle and end. Has potential due to Saul Goodman being such a great character in BB.

Meeh I do like this show but It should be great they just seem to be dragging it out.
It's like they've been teasing for something to happen since S1 EP 1 and it still hasn't. No need for like half an episode where they screw with some pleb investor that's a 5 minute job at best

Re: Better Call Saul
Best episode of the season so far. The scene between Jimmy and Chuck was amazing. That was world class acting from both of them. Man they did a really god job with the writing of Chuck, really appreciate the complexity of his character. I thought he was a grade A asshole after season 1 but now I realize he is actually right. He is the one who knows Jimmy the best after all.

Re: Better Call Saul
Short story short, a while ago I needed a new show to watch, downloaded the first season of this and today finished watching it.
I really enjoyed the first season. I wasn't sure if Saul/Jimmy was interesting enough a character to have a whole show based around him, but at least for the first season it worked very well. Strong episodes and good writing. I felt the different stories - like Mike, the Kettlemans, the old people's home - were finely paced. The moment I started feeling something like the Kettlemans thing started to drag out, it moved forward.
However, it definitely helped that this was a Breaking Bad spin-off. It would have been pretty good as a stand-alone show, but it helped to know about Jimmy and Mike etc. Mike's been a great character, btw, I just can't help feeling a little sad watching him in this show and knowing his ultimate fate.
The only thing I had a little problem with was the ending. I didn't understand what exactly made Jimmy/Saul turn away from that dream gig of his. Getting a job in a law firm, working on his own case. Finally making it. And he turns away from it? After trying so hard? I thought that was weird. But I get it that the final nudge was needed to turn Jimmy into Saul and that clearly was it.
Haven't started watching the 2nd season yet. Very little replies in this thread... Sign that it's not that good?

Re: Better Call Saul
I like this show, but like others have pointed out already, the climaxes in terms of excitement are few and far between. I keep waiting for the show to really take off, but it never really does. I do think the concept of the show is very unique, though. It stands out, in that regard. Also, the acting is top notch.

Based on the first season alone, I do get this argument. There wasn't anything really big going down. But, I kinda like it. I feel that if they made it too dramatic, it would feel unrealistic to me. They can't throw, you know, major criminal activity in there, because we know Breaking Bad. It would make no sense if Jimmy was dealing with drug trafficking, murders and whatnot, because we somewhat know at what level of criminal activity he is in the future, in Breaking Bad. And he isn't a major criminal in Breaking Bad.
Are there any news about how many seasons they're going to make? I find myself thinking that this show could "reach the next level" if they at some point jumped ahead to the time after Breaking Bad.

They don't need to go that far. I just feel that the first season and the start of the second season, have mostly been about minor setbacks in Jimmy's everyday life, and his slow progression towards becoming a lawyer. I keep waiting for there to be some more progress in his character development, or just som kind of change that takes Jimmy away from his relatively safe surroundings. I think we'll see that eventually in season two, but I think the show could've gained more popularity if the writers had taken more risks and branched out from the everyday setting of the first season at an earlier stage.

Also on this, Jimmy was always a con man/criminal. Being a legit lawyer was never his dream job, he only wanted to become one to make Chuck happy and proud of him. After Chuck's betrayal and the time he spent with Nacho, he came to the realization of who he really is.

Wow, that was the best episode of TV I've seen this year. Let's hope its not like season one where a fantastic penultimate episode is followed by an underwhelming finale.
Compare the scene with young Jimmy and Steven Gerrard to Jimmy and photocopy guy.

Re: Better Call Saul
Not to be a hype slayer, but I'm not digging this season. Unless E10 really blows my mind, this is a weaker season overall and very unlike Breaking Bad which just kept getting better and better each season.
How many seasons will it take for Jimmy to even resemble Saul Goodman? His character has barely progressed since S1.
I still watch it but damn it's boring me and I was a huge fan of S1.
