Interesting to see where the show goes now. Wonder who the kids will avenge first.

Re: Vikings
I'm curious how will Bjorn react as he doesn't know yet.
- Put in a spoiler because it's a little revealing:
- I can see Auslaug's sons team up with Egbert and go against Aelle tbh despite Ragnar telling Ivar otherwise.
Notsure about Lagertha. I think she's protected well enough for them to do something on their own unless they gather an army

Re: Vikings
The penultimate episode aired last night and it was pretty damn glorious.
I always loved how close to the history this show remains. It was nearly right on the button.
Oh and Floki has probably the GOAT line of the series so far. Well worth the wait of all these seasons.

Re: Vikings
I feel like the last week's episode was a little rushed, especially when it comes to the battle. Looking from a different perspective though, battle scenes are usually repetitive and boring so it's good they dealt with it in a matter of a minute. They definitely made up for it with the amazing ending to the episode.
So excited for tonight. This show has it all.... impeccable writing, acting and pretty much everything!
The acting in this show like in none other I feel like. I'm thinking especially about the charachters of Ragnar, Ivar, Bjorn and Ubbe (Floki as well but he has changed a little in season 4). They are such sublime actors and there's just something about them, the way they talk and behave in different situations, I just love it!

Re: Vikings
The battle in the last episode was better than the Battle of bastards in GoT, hands down
S04E19 was probably the best ep. in a while!

Re: Vikings
Anyone still watching this? Just bought season 5 part 2
(Sidenote, probably the first time I outright bought a season since dvd sets were a thing, Amazon has made it convenient enough for me to do this than to download a torrent).

Re: Vikings
- not really a spoiler but idk:
- Yes. The show's gone downhill since the season 4 finale. There's many plot holes, the writing is quite poor and cringeworthy at times, Bjorn and Ubbe especially are over-acting/trying too hard to be like Ragnar which is the result of poor writing.
Bishop Heahmund is a VERY poor man's Athelstan. It's like the writers didnt have any idea how to carry on with the show after S04E20 and just mixed together a bunch of shit and called it a day. Floki's Iceland subplot or whatever you'd call it is just a shameless script filler and doesn't bring anything into the show. Incredible waste of probably the best character on the show bar Ragnar and maybe King Ecbert.
I still enjoy it though because i love the setting and I think the finale was pretty good so there's that.

Re: Vikings
Yeah agreed with all of that, at least as of S5P1. The wife still really likes the show though, and I don't mind it that much, so I'll keep at it. These days I prefer The Last Kingdom for this setting, however.
Floki has long outlived his usefulness. He shouldve died the 2nd or 3rd time he betrayed Ragnar.

Re: Vikings
I love the show too, was waiting eagerly for new episodes every week. If you ignore the plot holes, it's a very entertaining series and the battle scenes are fantastic most of the time. Especially a certain single combat scene in ep. 19 I think.
Overall one of my personal top series ever. Ragnar's acting blew me away. GOAT stuff.
Its a shame the show regressed but I guess it happens, many shows go to shit after 3-4 seasons.

Re: Vikings
Somehow I can't get myself around to watching The Last Kingdom. I feel like I won't like the characters as much as the ones in Vikings. I don't believe it can compete I guess, since I like Vikings so much.

Re: Vikings
Give it a chance, just on it's own terms, not as a comparison to Vikings. The first season was decent, and after that the show grew on me a lot.

Re: Vikings
See thats the problem though, I'm unable to watch it without directly comparing to Vikings. Right now I'm hooked on the Punisher but I'll give Last Kingdom a chance once I'm done.

Re: Vikings
Historically, I really got into the Last Kingdom when I realized it's essentially a sequel to Vikings given it depicts some direct descendants of Ragnar and his sons as well as an older, wiser and more politically astute Alfred the Great.
Awesome show.
As for Vikings, I agree with BC on that Floki's storyline should've ended by now. Still love him though. Still my favorite character.
Of Ragnar's sons only Bjorn and Ivar are super interesting though Ubbe resemble him physically the most. The War between themselves, Lagertha, King Harald and even Rollo briefly has been overall entertaining, but not at all compelling.
That said, this show is a long way off from me giving up on it like I did TWD.

Re: Vikings
Just finished S05E17. I wish they had just skipped all of the Icelandic subplot. It drags and makes me roll my eyes way too much.
I'm pretty close to giving up on it. Think I won't watch the next season unless I hear it has picked up substantially.

Re: Vikings
Too much of a history junkie to give up on it at this point. Hell I even watch Knightfall and that show is as historically inaccurate as they come. At this point, I can't afford to give up on virtually any historically set action show. There's simply not enough of them.

Re: Vikings
It was the closest thing cable TV has come to GoT. And it came very close.
The spinoff show (Valhalla, it's called I believe) should be interesting from a historical perspective as it features some extremely well-known figures from Scandinavian and English history. For me it serves almost as a sequel not to Vikings, but to the Last Kingdom, which for me, is perhaps the equal to Vikings though it has a slight advantage given it was made on Netflix.
The Dark Ages and early Middle Ages are truly fascinating. I'm all for more shows being made for this time period. Lots of narrative and creative opportunity if done correctly. Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is taking full advantage of it, to great effect so far.
