I just hope its non-linear and has an open world to explore, the gameplay swayed from the classical JRPG to an action RPG it seems, a bold move i sincerely hope it doesn't backfire.

I can't stress the open world part enough. FF 13 and FF 13-2 failed imo because they didn't have an open world. It's not a FF if you can't explore the world and everything is linear. I miss having an airship and being able to go anywhere I want.
I see the combat system from FF 12 is back, and that is fine to me. Entering an imaginary battlefield everytime you encountered an enemy always got boring to me after a while.
It looks interesting, let's hope it delivers.

I kinda miss having a medieval FF though.

Please no . I hated FF 13 voices so much I'm seriously considering buying the japanese version with english subtitles. Snow Villiers still gives me nightmares sometimes. And Vanille too. I remember one part in the game you had to control her, and she'd let out girly screams every 10 seconds. I actually turned the sound off ffs

Played 7, 8, 9 and 10 (all multiple times, probably each one at least 10 times since childhood ) and then stopped. Played 11 at a friend's house for a few days but meh. Didn't like that auto battle system where you basically didn't need to do anything manually from some point on. Thinking about getting this new XV when it's out to see what happened to Final Fantasy since my times. Timing of the release will probably coincide with me finishing my studies anyway so should be a nice excuse to buy a PS4.

Playing X remastered at the moment. I must say I much prefer the real time "auto battle" paradigm system in 13 and 13-2 than the old turn based system. The turn based system has gotten dated.

I love turn based system lol. But I guess it is outdated on consoles in todays time.

You might be the only one who liked 13 btw

I am going to buy X/X-2 remaster as soon as I finish Witcher 3 and FF type-0.

Turn based battle systems are not outdated at all. Maybe X is in someways, but that game is 14 years old. We haven't gotten a proper turn based FF game in over a decade. Not sticking to a normal system and going crazy with these ideas every single new game needlessly complicates something that should just be a means to an end. There's supposed to be a lot more to FF than combat. But 13 was such a barren game with really nothing to do it had to over complicate something that should have been simpler. Final Fantasy should be about forcing the player to explore the world, use all the resources they can to best upgrade their players abilities and force them to strategize through character, class and skill building. You don't need a flashy flashy woosh woosh action system to do that.

I'm hoping that FFXV is good but the series really needs a return to form game based on more basic and traditional systems. Have faith in the systems what made the series great in the first place. I'd say if we were to compile a list of the top ten to twenty greatest JRPGs of all time, that every single one of them would have a similar combat system. I don't think that is a coincidence

The only thing I hated about 13 was its long cut scenes. But I'm about 5 hours through X and it's even worst. A) You can't skip them and B) some of the scenes seem really pointless. I also feel like I'm playing a love story.

I didn't mind the linearity in 13 that much as it felt like a long tutorial on the paradigm system for about 1/2 the game. But once you got to Pulse and then Eden, the game opens up. If you got the hang of the Paradigm system, the monsters became very easy to kill.

And my favourite RPG will always be Golden Sun.
