Man U
13 Premier League Titles
5 FA Cups
2 CLs

Madrid
11 La Liga titles
3 CDRs
3 CLs

So which method is more effective?

In the long term it doesn't seem like it'll be much of a difference. However I'd like to see you compare the last ten years. That's when things went downhill for us.

There are up and down cycles in the game. SAF went through a rough patch in middle of the 2000s too.

But if you look at the past 10 years, Madrid has won 4 La Liga titles and 1 CDR. It was ok by anyone's standards except our own mainly because we couldn't do well in CL.

But over the term of SAFs career, i would say Madrid say been slightly better than Man U actually.

Yeah I'd say that's fair. In the long term the cream rises to the top however I bet the lack of drama surrounding United is something we wish we had.

For the life of me I can't understand why we can't find a manager the club likes and just stick with him.

You have to get a manager that is both good and understands the workings of Spain/Madrid.

That's why i hope Carlo comes and Zidane is his bench coach. If Zidane is good enough to become the coach and do well... he can handle Madrid.

Carlo won't last either though. He doesn't play attractive enough footy.

Debatable if you take the whole period into consideration. I think there was definitely a period where Man United were playing much better football that us. Although from 2000-2003 saw we played some amazing football.

SAFs European achievement of 2 CL in 26 years is actually poor. He tottally made donkee league his bitch though.

Actually it's much better than many many teams out there. Add the fact that he reached two other finals (meaning he could have had a ridiculous 4 to his name) and it's pretty impressive, especially considering that when he took over United they weren't a European powerhouse at the time.

Winning the CL is no joke, hell winning it twice is effectively elite level no questions asked for managers.

I don't think one method is better than other. Long term managers aren't better than short term and vice versa.

Long term managers are statistically always better because it means that they've met the expectations of the club consistently for a long period... there's no transition period for a new manager.

Madrid is an extreme case. We don't sack managers because they underperform a lot of times... we just sack them because we can Laughing

One thing I'm sure about it's that Fergie will never ever forget his trip to Madrid in 2003. We totally outplayed them at the Bernabeu.

The 2003 win was expected. I think he fondly (or not fondly) remembers the Redondo show that was seen in 2000. Take into consideration Utd were the reigning European champions, kings of England, the English media's darling, clear favourites and Real Madrid actually fearing them somewhat to lose.

Anyway, pretty even record considering how messed up our management is...

Agree with Doc, the 2000 Madrid win probably stings Fergie more than the 2003 one.

If you are talking about Carlo Ancelotti,he took a Chelsea team renowned for efficency, machine like efficiency that wins 2-0 without romance in To 100goal scoring premeir league champions and arguably playing the best football in the country even beating the ikes of United 3/4-0.

and the other thing to consider is that not all longer term managers are going to turn out to be SAFs

so its difficult to make the argument that if madrid would have had someone long term that results could have been better.
