BUT how does Barcelona do it. They have same issue (maybe even more so), yet they seem to keep talent in academy. They have Thiago, Ruben, and Montoya in liga adelante (Thago played on both teams) and these guys are 21 or 22.

Re: Castilla Thread
How they do it?
1) They are lucky to have a very talented generation, they had good leadership from the start, and things aligned for them from the start.
2)They went to segunda last season, when they were still fairly young. Imo most of them would be out by now if not.
it's not impossible to retain them, but many of our kids have been carrying a lot of hype, and the doors of professional football is opening for them. Their dream is still to succeed as professional footballers first, it's hard to deny that call, specially when the door of promotion looks closed.

Nick - that Generation has been going on for 10 years!!!! We've also had talent but not as many "stars". Biggest difference IMO is they offer 1 or 2 each year a shot with big club, plus they always have several from B team practicing and call-ups. This give academy optimism whereas until this past year we didn't even have call-ups. I just hope you are right about current leadership and talent in system to be sufficient to make advancement. Then hopefully they can put pressure on coach to give opportunities to academy.

Re: Castilla Thread
Things wont change overnight, things will improve, but it takes a new kind of politic to revamo things the way barca did. There are still apparent structural differences between both our academies.

Re: Castilla Thread
No build up, we usually play straight through the wings and very direct.
They beat our juvenil A the same way not long ago, we were inexistent in the final 3rd.
makes me wonder if it's not time for a change in philosophy from deep as well, their possession oriented game is going to be a real nuisance for us, if we dont adapt.
