He made some excellent last ditch tackles and used his great pace.

However, he did leave Messi onside and was lucky the linesman is blind.

Love a defender who can score AND actually defend. Reminds me of a certain Thiago Silva v Barca.

Not sure why the other defenders came up when the guy with the ball is 10 yards away and you're at the center circle. You can't play the offside trap there... especially when you have 2 CBs and a fullback against just Messi. Ref missed it. But i also think Varane was shocked that Arbeloa and Carvalho moved up in that situation.

Even crazier when you consider this back 4 have never played together lol. First time.

Only mistake the kid made in the game, if you can call it one. Bossed everything else.

Varane is a beast. Madrid fans knew this the second he made his debut. Glad everyone else is coming around.

If we buried our 2nd half chances, this conversation wouldn't be happening.

However, he put in some good tackles against Messi especially. Similar (or even slightly better) to what Pique did at the other end.

The main reason Pepe and Ramos are so untouchable is because Ramos is Spanish and Pepe is Portuguese. If they weren't,im sure we would be seeing more of Varane and a top CB like Kompany or TS at Madrid.Albiol is also only surviving because he is Spanish Laughing

As i said i didn't see the game but just saw the Fabregas goal and it was very poor defending from Varane tbh, his positioning was god awful.

As i said i didn't see the game but based on what Dani said and the goal i don't think he was as faultless as you are all acting....

Mind you he probably does look like Nesta compared to Ramos lol.

Good god. You realize that wasn't his side. Carvalho and Arbeloa were on that side. Callejon kept everyone onside while the back 4 had held the line... they didn't account for the RWinger being there. Otherwise, Cesc was offsides.

Might as well criticize Ozil for not being there ffs.

Blind hate is blind i guess.

I am sure the debate is coming following moles post, so here it is.

Varane doing a bit of ball watching you have to admit.

Still a great performance and without him you would imagine we would of had at least 2 more 1 v 1's.

Its funny how he looked calm while a man 30 years his senior next to him in Carvalho was all over the place at times.

^That...

Disregarding the fact that it happened on the side of Carvalho/Arbeloa.

It was Callejon's fault he made a soft clearance in the middle while being the last man on the final third hence making everybody onside.

Is it that time of the month or something?

I have done nothing but praise him and point out he made two half errors.

Dont be so sensitive. He was great regardless of his age, let alone for a teen.

I hardly see how Mole would gather the incentive to hate on Varane given that he couldn't give a toss about Classico. Laughing

Fact is Varane wasn't at fault for his zone yet his positioning quite frankly was poor and it didn't help that Carvalho was compromised by his initial zone.

Aside from that he had a perfect game from the 85% of the game I saw as its quite impressive to see someone so young to have a mature head on his shoulders. The goal didn't have to convince me that he was Madrid's saviour in the back for all the other chances created. Replica of a young Nesta

Nah not really and it was his side....

As for hate i do hate kids being hyped to be the best defender of all time after one game yes.

Its not fair on the kid for one and secondly its just embarassing.

Same thing happened after Wilshere Barca game and quite frankly he hasn't performed to that level since although he is getting back there now.

Why do people do this every time? i think its disgusting that so much pressure is put on someone who is so young.

Even seen people saying he's the best defender in La Liga

I'm sure potentially he is great but this pressure ( and if you're acting like it you can believe the press will) is just unfair and quite frankly un-justified.

Ok then. I think it's Alvez' fault that Varane scored. it wasn't his side or his responsibility... but he should've found a way to run across the box and jump higher than him.

My criticism of Alvez is just as credible as yours of Varane here.
