Re: Official Copa America Thread
All in all the quality of this Copa was poor. From the quality of football and refereeing to the terrible pitches and venues.
We were also bad, but understandably so. I had zero hopes in winning Copa and making it to the semifinals against the probable champions is overachieving for this squad and this coach. Strange formations, strange line ups, strange substitutions.
I hope this is Di MarĂa's last appearance in the national team. I had heard all about how he had been playing sublime football at Paris but I guess doing well in provincial BPL doesn't mean jack. I would have preferred Lautaro replacing him on the left with Mauro playing more centrally.
Scaloni did well given his shortcomings but he is a second grade assistant coach in the end. Out.

Re: Official Copa America Thread
The Arthur one was a penalty. That was just dumb as shit. Does anyone have a different angle for the other one? I find it hard to believe that with fifty different cameras that was the best shot we have.
I think he's really good, but I just don't buy the "best GK in the world" hype.

From a different angle, the Aguero one also looked like it was a clear penalty. Argentina were robbed.

Crying
40 years. Long years.
Idc if we get blown out by Brazil. Stopping Chile made us all happy. For the majority of this decade we've been in their shadow. No longer.
Tears pouring down. What a game we played out there.

Re: Official Copa America Thread
Peru probably played their finest game since the 70s. Where did that came out from? Passing was smooth as eggs, the finishing was sublime, the saves Gallese was making, seriously, where the fk did this come out from?
Congrats Perucho, your suffering has officially ended. Saw your nation in the WC and now, beat your rival on the way to a Copa America final. Meanwhile, Argentina crying over VAR, beautiful.

Did you think the Aguero one was a penalty? From one angle (the camera behind Argentina's goal) it looked like a penalty but another angle looked like Aguero stepped on Dani's foot. What do you think?

Re: Official Copa America Thread
I think at least 1 was a pen. Either way the ref should've checked
And today we get another reffing scandal as Messi is shown a red card for absolutely no reason. What a joke of a tournament. Imagine going to this game to enjoy watching Messi live for the only time ever for this to happen.

The fact the ref never checked the VAR is what most bothered me tbh
It's actually crazy to think that after the otamendi v arthur or the aguero incident didn't go to VAR review

Yeah exactly. VAR should work as a challenge system, similar to tennis. Each coach gets 3 challenges and has to use them strategically, each correct challenge doesn't detract from the challenge count. That way we minimize time spent VARing and shit like this doesn't happen

Re: Official Copa America Thread
Doesn't VAR review everything? Where are you guys getting that VAR didn't check those two plays?
Also, the challenge system is awful. Why should it be up to the players/team to try to fix refereeing mistakes?
From what I've seen, VAR has worked well in the WC and the Champions league while being terrible in the CA and the Brasileirao. It does have room for improvement but maybe the main problem is the incompetent fucks who are using it.

Re: Official Copa America Thread
I agree. VAR is correct as it is , if it doesn't work it 's just because of ref's incompetence.
I'd not do challenge as in tennis because football is not tennis, simply. It' s unfair to compare two different sports, they 've different situations.
It's worked in Champions League.

Complete horseshit penalty.
But greatest DM in the world Firmino though!
Also, what has gotten into Gabriel Jesus? Does he read GL?

Re: Official Copa America Thread
I think he did, man out here playing great. Dribbling past anyone that dares challenge him. What is this player ffs.
Also, the PK was bullshit but you gotta blame the new rule changes:
I could only imagine the ref believed that when Silva went down to tackle, his hand didn't need to be there. Sure of it.

New rules or whatever wrote:A free kick or penalty will be awarded if:
- the ball touches a player's hand/arm which has made their body unnaturally bigger

When I think Coutinho is unfairly targeted by Barcelona fans (he is), his decision making for Brasil constantly reminds me why he is still yet to solidify his position there.

Gabi really didn't need to get a 2nd yellow for that but I could see why he got it tbh.

He has more freedom there and Brazil NT seem to be more organized than Barca these days which is bonkers since they rarely train with each other. However, his deficiencies are still very much on display.
It's incredible how incompetent the refereeing is even with VAR in place. What the fuck South America???

Also no way Advincula should have gone that long without a yellow
Got extremely lucky to not have been sent off
