luis has been more consistent then Marcelo this season, hell marcelo doesn't make it into the starting 11 for Madrid, due to inconsistency or injuries.

I totally forgot about Luisao.
He should start alongside T.Silva.

He had a beast of a season, probably the best in his career.

Forgot about Miranda too..

It's going to be a tight decision on the two CBs, obviously T.Silva has his spot reserved but it will be an interesting fight over the second spot

Agree. I would have taken Diego Alves as well. And Jonathan>Maicon.

well of course this is another story. the same Brazil reminds us how the opinions "on paper" are often useless
the Brazil 1994  Sad was much less strong than other Brazil  , with Serie A flop Mazinho and Dunga as starters and yet that Brazil is Champion of the world , others Brazil as 1982  Smile not.

our nt has a history of players not performing in clubs but performing for the nt which is pretty interesting.I think Oscar and specially Luiz are the biggest examples of it now

but yeah, even if the fans trust Fred ,it is a general opinion that this is our weakest pool of CF's since 1990, maybe ever.I wont say we have a poor attack though since Neymar is the best forward after Pele in terms of goals/assists per minute

poor attack contextualized to the past of course.
Even Neymar is not to level than Romario or Ronaldo for example ... maybe tbf  even Brazil 1982 had poor CF ( on paper you had GOAT Careca , but he missed WC because he  got injured..)  but compensated this lack with amazing midfielders and AM ...

Said this ... I think Brazilians have great confidence in Scolari , rightly after the brilliant job in 2002 when the Brazil played the WC as outsider and it won it ( and we come back to previous matter, Brazil is good to overturn opinions " on papers" ... from one to the other ... )

in World Cup it is essential to be a compact group more than individualities, as Italy 2006 learns , or I remember the Brazil 1998 ( it was my 2nd NT after Italy because there was Ronaldo Proud) .
It had the best player in the world , but it depended exclusively on him , and it was a limit for that famous final.

This Brazil has not past individualities probably, but it looks like a solid squad , as showed also in Confederations Cup thanks to Scolari's job , and for this reason it is tough .. as well as playing at home of course

It's not poor in any way except that it is thin on CFs.

Not in terms of how the team performed, or the level they reached.

But just on pure quality, did Dunga have more quality at his disposal then or would he have more now?

-------------------Cesar (30)--------------
Maicon (28)---Lucio (32)----Juan (31)----Bastos (26)

------------Gilberto (33)------Melo (26)---------

--------Elano (28)-----Kaka (28)----------------

--------------------Fabiano (29)----------Robinho (26)

Bench: Thiago Silva, Alves, Ramires, Baptista, Nilmar

Im thinking he had more depth with this team, especially in attack. But no player here is as good as Neymar is now. Midfield is pretty close, defence also...even though there is no real leftback the other guys at the back 3 are all calm and sensible.

Not sure really which has more overall quality.

tough question.the general consensus is that Dunga's team was really solid defensively , however he never had a player as decisive in attack as Neymar.I think that 2006-10 attack was very good as a unit, but the individuals other than Luis Fabiano didn't show consistency in terms of pure decisiveness. He will have a huge problem to resolve in the CF position which his team used to be built upon.

on the overall quality of the squad, that team was probably a level above specially since those players were veterans, but this team with Neymar,Oscar,Cou and others have potential to be better.

what makes me worried is how he detests using youth.I'm afraid young players like Coutinho,Danilo,Gabriel etc don't get a chance.I can see a lot of the players from the 14 campaign staying in the squad.Hell, I can see Luis Fabiano and Cesar getting called up Laughing

Other sources are also reporting that CBF are negotiating with him, the deal is imminent.Everybody was expecting Tite and this news came like a big shock.the fans are really frustrated/upset and unlike the non-brazil fan's opinion, the public hated his last time with the NT.

I'm a bit pessimistic, i would also want Tite, but on the bright side at least with dunga we are guaranteed to have a team that will be consistent and be competitive in the WC and in the next 2 Copa Americas

Post by elitedam Sat Jul 19, 2014 4:40 am

That is a tough question. At first glance, I would say that individually the players now are slightly better but they were a lot more cohesive when Dunga was coach.

My main problems with Dunga is that it'll be really ugly, a few player choices, and how we fell apart against the Dutch in the second half. It's insane looking back at Bastos playing left back going up against Robben. Melo has always been a psycho and shouldn't have never been relied on though I can sort of give Dunga a pass there because Ramires was suspended. We were weak mentally after the Dutch striked back and that was supposed to be one of our strengths.

However, the WC defeat aside, you can't argue with his results.

I'm also, like Ganso, conflicted about rehiring Dunga. Young players might not get their chance meaning no squad renovation anytime soon. But I also didn't think Tite would do anything worthwhile. The CBF has also hired a guy that has close ties to Teixeira as technical director (or some other bs title) so it looks like more of the same old shit.

Yeah, I feel it is very tough. The biggest problem trying to figure out which team had more quality is that Dunga's first team looked a better collective unit which in term makes the players look closer to their maximum.

So once again, Brazil go the route of pragmatic/defensive footy as opposed to inspired/playing footy... i guess Brazilian football is dead. It's just another team now. Really a crime imo...
