Said he needed to be sacked two years ago now they have no room for error in picking their new coach. Costa Rica and Mexico are pretty much through even if it's early. If they come back strong they can take the 3rd spot from Panama, and if all else fails they can fight for fourth with one of the poorest Honduras teams in years.

It won't be a foreigner coming in to replace him. That's for sure. Looks like it'll be Bruce Arena. He's the best coach the USA have had in the modern era so no complaints from me.

Feels like a panic move. Lets get real nobody was coming into Costa Rica that night and getting points. They are unplayable at home.

Agree with this 100%, though I'm not a big Arena fan. He's probably the best we've got though

His comments about homegrown players vs foreign-born players isn't going to go over well in hindsight now.

I understand what he was trying to say, but it was never going to come out right in this day and age.

That said, I'm not expecting good football from an Arena-coached USA....but they'll get the results they need to get and more importantly: Players will be playing in the positions, in formations that they are comfortable with.

Agree with this and Rebano. Klins should've been cleansed 2 years ago when he excluded Donnie from Murica NT.

There was a promo in the US for the ICC some years ago that had Juve and Madrid in it. So they when the guy was naming the stars of the teams he said Ike-r Casilias and Andrea Pirilo

He could definitely pronounce it like that since he was born and raised in the US (right?). His Croatian family definitely don't pronounce it like that though.

Imagine wanting Big Sam as your manager. Don't get me wrong, if it's him vs some American trash manager or Arena, I'm all big Sam. With that being said, I don't think the way forward for US football is to have more hoofball. It's starting over with younger, hopefully more technical players and trying to get AWAY from the things that lead us here (like short sighted, athleticism based, negative, defensive football that big Sam is known for). At least, in this sense, Klinsmann was initially a positive influence.

I understand US football probably isn't good enough to turn down a half decent manager like big Sam. I don't care. It's going in the wrong direction if it happens.

I don't understand the USA selection process... they call up Weah who, although talented, is in CFA2 for PSG. That's the 4th division.

It's stupid. Wait for the kid to actually play professionally other than some bit callups here and there.

Congrats to our Canadian posters on the first victory over USA in over 30 years. Well deserved win as we were very poor. Some are calling that worse than the T&T performance, but I don't think anything tops that shitshow.

It's emblematic of a major problem within US soccer though and it tells me that it was never about talent. This is what happens when the USSF had a chance to completely change how the it functions and take US soccer forward, but instead it was decided that the status quo is good enough and Gulati and his minions weren't responsible for what happened at T&T. Carlos Cordero is a Gulati clone and this loss is precisely why. His team chose the wrong coach and we're paying for it.

On evidence, this is why I support paying the USWNT more than the men and I don't a flying fuck about ticket sales and TV revenue.

There is no accountability... nobody really cares about US NT unless it concerns the world cup. Problem with that is that it allows complacency for 2 years out of 4.

I honestly think that Americans just dont understand the sport. They treat it like basketball or football when it comes to evaluations or it's just super political and the good players slip through. I played at a very competitive level growing up and they're are some really good players I've came across, I dont know what happened to them though. Most of those players were foreign also tbf

Very lucky to play in CONCACAF where all nations except Mexico have mediocre teams that are built only on strength and running. In the end Gold Cup and Nations League have no importance, exhibition games from european NTs are more interesting, what really matters are the 3½ spots for World Cup 2022. You will qualify and we won't.
